What you can do? Tell Democrats to close the border.

Tell Republicans to stop displacing innocent human beings and shipping them around like they’re commodities to be bought and sold.

currentlyhigh t1_ixw1xpf wrote

To be fair it's not like they are "shipping them" against their will, Texas simply offered to pay their bus fare.

Texas lied to them about the places they were going and the opportunities that were awaiting them. They lured them with promises of food, jobs, and housing, then sent them to be someone else’s problem with absolutely none of those things waiting on the other side. Manipulating someone into agreeing to something isn’t consent.

This claim gets thrown around a lot and I've looked into it but the evidence is very light. Almost 10,000 immigrants and asylum seekers have been bussed to the east coast in the last few months so if there was a widespread government conspiracy to trick them into moving without consent then it would be very well-documented at this point.

Most of the claims simply involve confusion about where the bus would stop and where they would be allowed to disembark. Other people claim that "someone with a badge" in TX told them there would be another bus waiting in DC but details tend to be vague.

Do you truly believe these immigrants and asylum seekers have a voice?

6

currentlyhigh t1_ixw9hcp wrote

Yes. Why do you think they don't? Just because they aren't citizens means they don't have autonomy? They don't need your infantilizing white savior attitude.

−5

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixw9cqk wrote

No, they are here illegally and should immediately be turned around at the border.

Democrats (and Republicans) should be clear that there is NO PATH To citizenship, it would alleviate a lot of suffering if people weren’t traipsing across the Western Hemisphere on foot, with in some cases kids in tow, paying human traffickers for misery in hopes of getting into this horrible racist country.

riri1313 t1_ixwc56o wrote

They are literally not here illegally. These are asylum seekers waiting for legal court dates, legally.

7

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwcrur wrote

Only in Democrats minds do they have a legitimate asylum claim.

−4

riri1313 t1_ixwcz9v wrote

No one is claiming that. The whole point of their court hearing is to determine if the claim is legit. Do you not believe in the legal system?

The vast majority of these folks show up to their court dates and abide by the rulings.

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwdf25 wrote

None of them show up for their hearings. Are you really this naive?

riri1313 t1_ixwdp4h wrote

Alright since the actual data proves you wrong, I’m going to peace out. I’m from this region in Texas btw and you don’t have any idea what you are talking about.

riri1313 t1_ixwulwg wrote

Your biased media site includes a comment that says “other data refuted this study”. Mind showing the original data or study?

1

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwx2ue wrote

How about you show your data?

riri1313 t1_ixwx5rk wrote

I did - my comment below includes a link with further links to data. Have a look! 🤡

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwxisj wrote

I did, the PJ article explains why that data is faulty and included congressional testimony.

If you believe any significant amount of illegal border crossers show up in court. I have a bridge to sell you.

riri1313 t1_ixwxr62 wrote

*legal border crossings. And again, I’m from the region in Texas you keep referencing - I have an understanding for the nuances of different border crossings and the rates in which those types complete their court obligations. But sure, keep trying to explain to me “how it works. ✌️

“In fiscal year 2018, Department of Justice (DOJ) figures show that 89 percent of all asylum applicants attended their final court hearing to receive a decision on their application. When families and unaccompanied children have access to legal representation, the rate of compliance with immigration court obligations is nearly 98 percent.“

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwxbrl wrote

The PJ article explains why that is not true.

Are there any illegals where you live? I can assure you the ones around here aren’t going to any court.

creepy-cats t1_ixw8w62 wrote

Are you truly naive enough to think that if the government was doing something shady to minority groups they would leave a well-documented paper trail? Literally all of American history tells us that won’t happen.

5

currentlyhigh t1_ixw9tgn wrote

>they would leave a well-documented paper trail?

No but there would be more verified reports of people getting forced across the country against their will. I'm not omniscient so if you can provide examples of that happening I'm happy to look into it further.

A child hospitalized for dehydration is a criminal worthy of being stripped of their human rights? “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwao3v wrote

Why’s the child here? Because Schumer and the like are on TV promising citizenship, which encourages people to either bring their children or send their children here with traffickers.

Someone not so innocent set the ball on motion.

Amazing how you “sanctuary city” hypocrites think border towns should handle these people, and a bus ride after they walked through Mexico is somehow a hardship.

−8

riri1313 t1_ixwcbhp wrote

Border towns get millions of dollars in federal aid because the government recognizes the burden of living on a border. I’m sure Texas would gladly share that money with Philly for taking these Legal immigrants in! Right? Right?!

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwcxwt wrote

Nope, you want to virtue signal with “sanctuary city” BS you pay. Leave my tax dollars out if it.

I don’t mind Philadelphia receiving people seeking amnesty. But this is purely a political stunt by an ignorant person. Why isn’t he sending people to “red cities” like Little Rock, Oklahoma City, etc.?

5

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwdcjb wrote

Because this is the fault of the Democratic Party, and they should go to Democrat run cities, so they can deal with what their party creates.

Sounds like you just like to parrot Fox News instead of doing your research. The U.S. has offer asylum dating back to the beginning of the country. As others have pointed out, they aren’t here illegally and each person will go through due process.

Asylum for legitimate reasons, not just for more economic opportunities.

It is incredible to me just how comfortable people like you are with utterly dehumanizing living, breathing souls as long as they’re poor, have dark skin, and come from a place that isn’t familiar to you. It’s really, really sad. These are human beings, the same things that make up your organs and cells make up theirs. None of us are that different, yet you are completely comfortable with treating these people like mud under your shoe.

3

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwuk8o wrote

None of what you posted is true. Fact is we have a LEGAL immigration system where people of any color can come to this country without risking their lives walking across Mexico and even Rio Grand.

Even if they made false claims, by definition if the government let them cross the border then they are in the country legally.

3

creepy-cats t1_ixwiry5 wrote

Do you have any solid proof that their claims are false or are you just desperately hoping they are so you can feel justified in dehumanizing them and treating them like they’re dogshit you just stepped in?

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwuvma wrote

If you illegally cross the border, you are a criminal.

Why don’t you try illegally entering another country and see how you’re treated?

nolandeluca t1_ixwd5l3 wrote

If the farmers stop hiring migrant workers they wouldn't come. A boarder won't stop someone trying to make money, if there's no money to be made they won't come. Simple as that. See someone using migrant or illegal labor, report it, stop turning a blind eye.

1

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwdnid wrote

A secure border will stop people illegally entering the country. Try going to Canada with tools in your truck, you’ll see.

In any case, your reasoning undercuts the “asylum seeker” narrative as their motives are financial.

−1

riri1313 t1_ixwfzfq wrote

Exactly how conservatives trap people with their stupid arguments. YOU introduced the idea that these people are here illegally and thus people respond about migrant labor. Then you scream that your point is proven because people are speaking about migrant labor. Ridiculous that anyone lets you dictate the conversation and then yields to you with your inaccurate lies.

2

Sheldon_Cooper_1 t1_ixwuqx7 wrote

Wow, really? Secure the border and illegals won’t be able to cross for any reason.

If the illegals that cross get sent back instead of “ sanctuary cities”, they will stop coming.
