The Ride NYC bus tour will be shutting down for good after October 16 and this some very sad news. They were closed between March 2020 and November 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then reopened with new COVID-19 protocols. Wondering what led to them shutting down for good.

This is the right take. Bus employees and local performers will be out of a job. Sucks

Really hard for them as they were out of work for more than a year and a half. Hopefully, they will be able to fill in the staffing shortages seen at other New York City tourist attractions.

To the people who worked as tour guides and drivers, thank you. Y’all loved your job. Lots of people are going to say they don’t care, but they don’t matter. I never took this tour either but I can always tell you loved what you did and made tourists love the city. Hope you find more new ways to keep the love going.

Probably a lack of tourists, this isn’t exactly something most natives/locals would do, and there isn’t really much repeat business I’d imagine.

How is tourism in New York City currently compared to 2019.

Down. By a lot. Wealthy Chinese can’t leave their country as easily.

Domestic tourism is at 90%+ of 2019 levels, which were an all-time record, and that includes the full year - recent months are over 100%.
International tourism is largely recovering other than China but does remain below 2019 levels, but China made up ~1 million tourists in 2019 compared to more than 66 million overall - there’s a real decline but it’s a fraction of overall tourism.
In aggregate, current projections are for ~56 million tourists this year, or about 85% of 2019 levels, and that’s increased significantly as the year goes on (September in the city looks VERY different from January 2022)

The Ride NYC is hoping to launch future iterations of the experience in the future, but for now will be shut down for good after October 16.
