As I was reading, I thought, "Damn. Glad he's not a nerd. We have D20s...well shit..."

Whoa. This is not what I was expecting but thank you for sharing it. Maybe we can get them to add letters to the address numbers….? Or like dollar signs and question marks and exclamation points!

I will note that he never hit addresses with letters (eg, 255B Maple street) so I think you're onto something, but the city government would probably need some convincing.

What about apartments? Like if it had unit 5, etc.

scarymaxx t1_j9nbg2l wrote

Yeah, we pulled bodies out of numbered apartments for sure.

Maybe next time he will pick an address with a letter in it, maybe will pick the letter by eating alphabetti spaghetti then making himself sick and the most clear letter is getting a visit.

A couple houses up from mine, the address is 12 1/2.

They'd be safe...

FruitcakeAndCrumb t1_j9ojw9y wrote

But society as a whole isn't safe from whoever numbered that house.

There’s a town near me with streets named …Ave N, Ave N 1/2, Ave O, Ave O 1/2, Ave P, Ave P 1/2,…you get the idea. I fear the person who numbered that house is escalating.

Jesus, that's disturbing. Don't get on their wrong side. I'll keep you in my prayers. Some people are just born wrong.

So say they start numbering houses as 321 1/4, 321 1/2, 321 3/4, and skipping over the whole numbers. But if they do that, he may just kill all the people in all three houses if he rolls 321. Maybe start giving each house a name instead of numbers.

May be a special character could be added. Or perhaps add a random Cyrillic (or any other script) character at the end of every address.

Instead of a number give every house or apartment a name.

time to break out the bear traps and hire some snipers. the fact that it could literally happen to ANYONE at any time is truly horrifying. sadly, killers who operate at random are near impossible to catch - BUT, it has been done before. so there’s still some hope

Some people collect dice. They come in a wide variety of colors, including resin blends and different metals with a variety of fonts and designs, and sizes. I have boxes of dice. It's relatively normal for a player to have a bit of fun by matching dice sets to a character or campaign. The other thing I would point out is that someone rolling for addresses wouldn't need a giant bag of dice. Even if you are rolling for 20 different variables, you can do that with a pocketful of dice. They guy in the hobby shop was just as likely to be a collector. They can be expensive, but plenty of people splurge on hobbies or get carried away collecting all kinds of things.

Having said that, I get being worried for ones child, and the sense that the killer can choose anyone arbitrarily now does limit the feeling that you can strategise.

As far as suite A or B, all the killer would have to do is roll a d2 and have 1 stand for A and 2 stand for B.

What if you got rid of the addresses on the houses and put them on the inside? It’s so stupid it just might work.

Man you were so close to catching him, but no dice I guess..

Erm, how is 364 Terra Avenue unsafe, while 368 is safe(r)? Is he rolling three separate dice?

Psychology_Salty t1_j9scl05 wrote

i guess he rolled one at a time and they were all six sided. but sounds like no one is safe anymore

I imagine, as we gradually have more hidden cameras monitoring our every move, it'll become increasingly difficult for serial killers like this to remain anonymous for any length of time.

He's a dying breed.
