It's actually not...a sociology professor went hunting for the old 40% myth and found out it's actually 28% (which is still really really bad)

The 40% was just a myth not backed up by proper science.
The 28% is factually accurate and again...really really bad. For comparison though, 23% of all women report being the victim of domestic violence.

40% is not "true" in any way and the reality is that it's much closer to the general population, but still higher.
