This fucking guy.
Why not focus on actually delivering the cybertruck? Or full self driving?
Nope. He gets bored and needs another shitty gimmick. So he builds a pre-programmed clunky humanoid that looks like something Boston Dynamics could build 10 years ago to distract folks. Even he admits the robot sucks (“Musk said currently humanoid robots were “missing a brain”, saying they don’t have the intelligence to navigate the world by themselves, and they were also very expensive and made in low volume.)
And folks can’t get enough of it apparently.
I’m sure the stock will double today.
whiterac00n t1_iqlt0g8 wrote
That’s what it is isn’t it? Him just trying to influence his fanboys into pouring money into his stock? The guy could tweet a picture of himself slathering his face with shit and he’d still get 200 thousand “likes” on twitter with at least half talking about how it’s “totally genius”. The entire right wing was masturbating themselves dead when he announced he was “buying twitter” with every edgelord running around all social media screaming about “freedom of speech is coming back!!”. But when he is trying to back out it’s suddenly “twitter is all bots” and suddenly freedom of speech doesn’t matter. The guy is just another cult personality

He said that about other robots. He was clearly not referring to the Optimus robot
Chippopotanuse t1_iqltmpb wrote
I missed the part where Optimus was being produced in volume cheaply. Or that it was doing anything other than a pre-programmed shitty dance that I saw the “Danger Will Robinson” robot do fifty years ago on Lost in Space.
Can you point me to that part of the article where he actually is producing this robot?
Or show me a video of it doing anything of value on a production line?
For some reason I don’t believe Elon’s hype.
Maybe because Tesla has been accepting $10,000 deposits since 2019 for “fully driving” Cybertrucks…and they are still years away from being able to deliver any of that.
Reddit123556 t1_iqlu658 wrote
I’m not going to link it for you. Go find it on YouTube. You can see it recognizing the world, navigating it and doing simple tasks in the office and factory. Who knows if it will deliver. Could be the next landing rocket, or could be nothing at all
AriBlue626 t1_iqmjtt9 wrote
Wow, I imagined something bad, and then I searched, and it was worse.
The only smart thing they did was make it look humanoid so people would give it a break when it fucked up.
Reddit123556 t1_iqml57v wrote
Lol. Okay, man. Converted AI able to recognize and label its environment in real time, interact with it, perform useful tasks with in it into a bipedal untethered frame in less than a year. Here let me hold your beer. Go over there and show them who’s boss. This is a recruiting event so I’m sure it’d be welcome. Crazy ass redditors.
AriBlue626 t1_iqmml80 wrote
Can I build one myself from scratch? nope, and neither can Elon.
Is any of this new advanced technology that hasn’t been seen before? Also nope.
Is it still just a prototype? Yep
Reddit123556 t1_iqmmyk3 wrote
Can you link me any other instances of ai installed in a biped robot generating voxels and auto labeling and interacting with the environment based on that? I’d be pretty interested to see it. That’d be exciting
AriBlue626 t1_iqmnj4v wrote
I’m curious, how many minutes/hours/days of footage have you seen of this biped robot navigating with ’AI’?
Reddit123556 t1_iqn6fp4 wrote
More than the time I’ve spent watching competitors do it, as none have. I’m waiting on the evidence to the contrary. Waiting on a link or two if you have them, friend.
AriBlue626 t1_iqn9e41 wrote
Lol, that wasn’t an answer, how many minutes of unedited footage have you seen? I’ll just say that Ive seen as many hours of unedited footage of this robot functions as you have.
Reddit123556 t1_iqnczkw wrote
Lol. All videos are edited friend. If you you insist on an answer, I think there were a couple of minutes demonstrating the ai and how it works. Now about those links
AriBlue626 t1_iqndvc6 wrote
Not all videos are edited for marketing no. What you saw was brief clips of the robot doing a singular task with no context. Yes it’s impressive compared to the 90s when Japanese car companies were into robots.
I bet multiple youtubers could produce a bipedal robot that succeeds in at least three several second tasks.
Frankly, it really seems like his AI vision tech isn’t ready for the road and has been pivoted to industrial vision tech, but that’s been around for awhile, so he put it in a humanoid robot for the cool factor.
Chippopotanuse t1_iqq7r0x wrote
Just curious - can Optimus send me a link or two? Like, can I ask it to do that and can it respond in some fashion?
Cause Alexa and Siri can. And they’ve been around for years.

Lol, I don’t know man. All I saw was what was demonstrated the presentation. Apparently I am one of the few who watched more than 60 seconds of it. Maybe ask the robot from Boston dynamics.
Chippopotanuse t1_iqqh38o wrote
I’ll ask the Boston Dynamics robot if I can catch up to it while it does Parkour. But I’m 47 and it’s more agile than me.
If Optimus was sentient, I could ask it…since it wobbles at the speed of a drunk toddler. It would be easy to catch up to.
Reddit123556 t1_iqqhamc wrote
Lol. That’s accurate. A toddler could definitely outrun that thing as it is presently. I think they’re supposed to have a max speed of 5 mph.

Make some whacky presentation, get billions thrown at you by clueless tech bros, fail to deliver on your promises, make a new whacky presentation to get billions more thrown at you. Musk needs to clean up his house. Step out of the twitter deal. Pay the billion plus court costs. Ihink that will do a lot to restore his credibility. He can do great things once he starts acting like a decent human being again. Plus, if the Twitter thing goes to court, he has no case.

I hope you find car horse funny. You're right. Though I do think the millions of robots he sees will be purpose built or special purpose built. I suppose a humanoid would be special purpose.
Perhaps most of our robots won't be human the same way our cars don't look like horses. But you can ride a horse on a carousel.
Unless a tangible thing is being pushed to market, there's plenty of reasons to just smile at his pronouncements.
