man i live in the suburbs and a guy tried to do a mass shooting in 2021. my friends house had a few bullets come through the wall and the cops used his yard during the standoff

New Haven is significantly safer now than it was back in the 80s. Those were rough times. Downtown had nothing but a dying shopping mall. None of these fancy restaurants and night clubs. No fancy Apple store in Broadway. Significantly higher crime rates.

nah in the 80s New Haven had the coliseum and then tune inn by 1990. Fancy spots like Scoozi's and Atticus were already open

East Rock looks safe but isn’t really safe IMO. I wouldn’t live there.

whatever would we do without your opinion. I've lived in East Rock for 20 years, it is overwhelmingly sanitized to the point of absurdity. 15 years ago - a little rough but still decently nice. Now - it's basically a theme park for white people from the midwest

Westville (west of the park) and East Shore have less shootings than other areas.

No there isn't. Don't move here especially with kids the violence is extremely random. I will most likely get down voted for this but 🖕

East shore has the least number of shootings in the city. I’ve been in this section for a decade and I can’t remember even one.

Hip hop culture glorifies violence. I have students in ‘music videos’ waving guns at age 15-16.

American culture glorifies violence. Hip hop didn't invent this.

Old people: "I hate how rap music glorifies gun violence!"
Also old people: "My favorite movie? Well Dirty Harry is up there. I mean, that one scene where he puts the 45 magnum in his face! Clint Eastwood is so cool.

Even before that, how many shootings were there in an average cowboy movie?

How many country music stars have been shot to death???
the-crotch t1_jc4hcec wrote
I don't have a number, but Mindy McCready, Justin Carter, Randy Howard, Kyle Jacobs. I can go on, do I need to go on?
[deleted] t1_jc4hxdw wrote
2 of these are suicides, 1 was an accident and the other was a shootout with law enforcement. Don’t be obtuse, country singers don’t go around shooting each other….

Don't call me obtuse. I answered your question and now that you didn't get the answer you wanted you're putting qualifiers on it. Eat me.

Hitler and Stalin killed, between them, about 30 million people. Find me a single black person with a body count that even approaches that. Take your time, I'll wait.

That's absolutely what's being discussed. You claim black people are more violent, I just gave you an example of two of the most violent people who have ever lived and they're both white. And you're all "no that's now how this works just agree with meeeeeeee!!!!"I don't know what's worse, being a racist or a crybaby, but you my friend are both.

Is this in east rock? Are there areas without gun violence in new haven? We are about to move there and this makes me very nervous
