Actually this is getting more common on industrial motor control centers - a red light indicating on, as it is potentially dangerous, and a green light indicating off, the safest position for a motor.

Yeah, that’s true - the stop push buttons are almost always red, I was trying to remember where I’d seen indicator lights to match those goofy buttons from the OP’s remote. Certainly not what I would have expected on a consumer device…

This pattern is used a lot in Asia. It always surprised me when there is something about the stock exchange on the news. Profit are in red and loss in green.

Isn't your lamp made in somewhere in Asia?
