Counterpoint - If a poll worker pulls your completed ballot out of the privacy envelope to "make sure you filled it out right," like happened to me, you can just snatch it back and insist it gets into the machine.

I wasn't aware privacy envelopes were a thing. But then again nobody at all gave a shit what was on my ballot. Dude just stood there waiting in case I had a problem getting the machine to read.

You can request them. They’re supposed to at the table you pick up the ballot. They’re optional
