My girlfriend has been going through a lot of stress in her life and so we're looking for a game with some cathartic violence to help vent some of that stress, the only problems are that most games have alot of animals or robots as enemies, and she isn't a fan of that aspect (she works in vet med and just thinks most robots are too cute) Ideally it would have a pretty accessable skill floor too, as she isn't very experienced.

Definitely just Doom (2016) or Doom: Eternal. You fall into the rhythm of slaying, and it's the most carthetic thing I've experienced. Or if you're into PC stuff, Doom (classic) with some mods like Brutal Doom would also work. The guys over at r/DoomMods could provably hook you up with good suggestions if that's the way you wanna go for it.

Left 4 Dead? (Or any other zombie killer). Superhot? Doom Eternal?

Arachnarokin OP t1_j6c2c8k wrote

I'll suggest those to her and see what she thinks, thank you.

thedazedmage t1_j6foaaf wrote

Yes doom eternal was my first thought. Extremely violent and satisfying, no killing humans only demons and hell priests. They definitely deserve the carnage.

billy_bob68 t1_j6g3peg wrote

Doom is an excellent choice. Dead Space and Bloodborne come to mind too.

1

Hellbore t1_j6c2xoa wrote

It's an older game, but "Manhunt", from Rockstar Games, has some satisfying violence. No animals or robots, just other humans to kill.

Do you walk into the rabbit girl's house then immediately exit, eliciting a hurt and confused response?

Do you repeatedly hit her in the face with the net while she's trying to sing in the square until she gets so angry she starts to stomp away, apologize to her, wait for her to start singing then do it again?

Do you realize that an octopus can give 4 hugs at once, but not even give it one hug?

If you have this game but are asking for catharsis you're playing it wrong.

Dynasty Warriors. Nothing gets the violence out like taking out 1000s of warriors on a huge battlefield to awesome rock/techno music.

It's my definite stress release game.

9

Arachnarokin OP t1_j6c3k5h wrote

That might be good, is hyrule warriors a good example of the genre?

5

Xano74 t1_j6c59n2 wrote

Hyrule Warriors is one of the better ones. Lots of content, runs great on Switch and is just fun.

My personal favorite for Switch is the original Fire Emblem Warriors.

I also recommend Samurai Warriors 5 since it's a soft reboot of the Samurai Warriors series.

And also Warriors Orochi 4. It has every Dynasty and Warriors character plus original characters and has almost 180 unique playable characters

CrackshotCletus t1_j6c5seb wrote

I would suggest getting a punching bag or dummy, learning proper punching form and buying some nicely padded gloves. Anger and frustration is much more effectively released with physical exertion in my personal experience.

But if you just want game recs, you canโ€™t really go wrong with grand theft auto, any of them. If she wants to get in an hour long shootout with cops or beat pedestrians with a hammer, you can do that. Iโ€™ve heard hotline miami is good too but I havenโ€™t played it.

4

Arachnarokin OP t1_j6c5yvt wrote

Yeah, my first thought was punching bag or excersize, but we can't afford to get the equipment, and she works 10 hour shifts so there isn't much time before or afted, and she's dead tired on her days off, thank you though

1

Grenadeglv t1_j6c22s2 wrote

If she's okay with horror games there's the dead space series, the literal gameplay loop is dismembering enemies and stomping them to get supplies

I would recommend killing floor 2, as a girl who also doesnt like killing cute things but wants very intense violence its perfect! Theres tons of weapons to choose from, you can play as woman and dress her up in cute outfits, and the game never ends as long as your alive! I have the same problem and this has been my go to game for years! Goodluck!

Sidenote: never use online games or pvp games for this as it will definitely lead to more stress at some point XD

I highly suggest psychonauts 1 and 2 Very therapeutic games and you can pet a goat and forest animals in the second one. Cyberpunk is in a pretty good place now, you can play as a female if that matters to her and there's tons of violence, but only to people.

The Just Cause series is essentially a chaos simulator in an open world with no animals that I can remember, or at the very least animals are completely optional.

Dishonored 1 and 2 you can play both stealth but also become a murder machine, especially in 2

The Dead Rising games might be good for that. Just save the game, then you can ignore all plot responsibilities and kill zombies with whatever weapons you want/can find.

The Saints Row games are also good, particularly the third. Once you get certain upgrades, you are basically unkillable and have an unlimited arsenal to rampage through the streets and tear through endless waves of cops and soldiers.
