Mainline games yes, but rom-hacks and spin-offs I don’t think I agree. Those are usually creative

Agreed, I think I've probably played just as many fan hacks as I have mainline games by this point.

Have you tried Temtem or the nexomon game? Pokemon inspired games I've thought about trying them

I've played a decent chunk of TemTem, definitely recommend it. Gameplay is a good chunk better than Pokemon and it's also way better looking too, although it's not without its faults. I tried the Nexomon demo a while ago and was pretty underwhelmed.
