I really never saw the disgust about this movie. it's italian horror from the 80s, what do you expect? I understand not liking the cruelty to animals, and the rape scene can be jarring on the first watch, but isn't that what it's supposed to do? it's a movie, but it's filmed in the style of a documentary so things are gonna be a bit more raw.

is there a good plot? no. are the characters memorable? no. but you can't tell me the practical effects and gore aren't remarkable for their time.

the others movies in the series (and yes there are sequels) all suck in comparison. it's no masterpiece of oscar gold, but it's also not the "worst movie ever" as many claim.

Much like Blair Witch Project, the filmmakers attempted to maintain the documentary façade. The director instructed the cast of unknowns to avoid press. Italian authorities suspected that there was actual foul play involved in the making of the film and investigated.

The slasher genre was still relatively new, and few movies up to this point were filmed with as much "realism" as this one.

Love that the director was suspected of murder until he had to physically bring the cast in.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. The scenes with animal cruelty were real. The scenes with humans dying were fake of course.
