his name is Alan, but his coworker butchered his name in the worst (or maybe best) way possible

As a spelling chalange person myself geting anal from Alan is feat. As you have to mix up a lot of letters for this to happen.

Perhaps autocorrect looked at how often he used the one word vs the other and just went with the most likely one.
