Those plans also exist in Portugal. They’re pretty discriminatory tho, despite the majority of consumers loving it. Telecommunications companies aren’t legally entitled (or at least shouldn’t) to tell you which apps are or aren’t worthy of free mobile data.

This was the whole net neutrality debate in the US. AT&T wanted to buy direct TV and then make it free to watch their streaming service over data whilst charging you for other services data.

Naja, 2 Mbits und kein 5G ist halt nicht vergleichbar zu den teureren Verträgen.

The prices improved in Germany last year. Now you can get unlimited data from 16€ per month:

But O2 can be shit when you are outside of the big cities. You have unlimited data but not does not help you much when you cannot use it.

Those networks are not that different from each other as most people think: https://www.finanztip.de/handynetze/

But yeah, when living in rural Germany it's worth checking which is the best?

I can just tell from personal experiences. I had O2 but had no connection at places from some relatives (Harz area, Münsterland). My cousin has still O2 and when we visit those places, he is dependent on wifi. Recently we were on a trip to Ostsee and stayed somewhere in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Same issue. I switched to Telecom as prepaid. No issues so far in those areas. Vodafone was also ok.

Vodafone DE has "social pass" that gives you unlimited data on social networks, though you have to pay a premium on plans/get a Vertrag

they all got banned I think (which I think is a good thing¹). Right now in grace period where you can still have it, but not book it new.

¹ gives too much power to the big companies because they are the ones that are free to consume with it and the rest of the web dies off.
