I mean it happened because it's funded, but it's not a scalable solution at this point. It might very well point us to a cure in time though, and I'm sure research is being done/funded in that direction.

You think this research happened for free? It is already being funded of course, it is just very expensive and still not suitable for everyone due to the resources required. This is the first woman to be cured, but there have been 4-5 men cured before her I believe.

It has only been used so far on patients who have the double condition of both HIV and a certain form of blood cancer, as it requires knocking out their entire immune system and replacing it with an HIV immune version
