Nah, I'm with that guy. This sub of so often has shit posted that isn't really uplifting when you think about it.

The sheikhs have so much money, they could provide new housing to all the victims and that'd barely make a dent in their finances.

Instead they just give away shit they don't need anymore to boost their PR somehow.

I know that technically it's a good thing, but I oppose praising low effort "charity" like that.

Yeah, I can give away my old socks with a hole in one of them if there's a sock crisis in town. But I can well afford a few dozen pairs even without going broke, bah, without this impacting my life significantly. Am I really praise-worthy enough to post news about me giving away my old socks on the Internet? I hardly think so.

That was my thought. I don’t disagree with keeping the sub clean from this kind of comment (my comment).

But if we’re talking cynicism, I think the post itself was the cynical part.

Not that I'm taking their side or anything but there's a lot of people out there who could do the same, and haven't sent tents or whatever.

Tons of people across the world have the means to significantly improve those people's lives and send incredible amounts of supplies etc. Not saying there's only one evil regime in the world...

didn't say i disagreed with him, in fact i totally agree- its just that reddit has been bombarded with some absolutely depressing and cynical news stories lately and this is one of the few corners of the site i feel like people can visit to get a reprieve and believe for 5 minutes that theres still some good in the world

edit: if you're going to downvote me, check the sub rules- "This subreddit is meant to be a place free of excessive cynicism, negativity and bitterness."
