And if you do that on the 31/12/2999 you can add next century and next millenium as well

Shadowtyger t1_j27sinh wrote

I mean in 8 years, you can add next decade while we're at it

December 31, 2029 lands on a Monday. So, the following day might start a new decade but it won't start a new week.

Shadowtyger t1_j29fg50 wrote

Depending on who you ask, Monday and Sunday are interchangeable as the start of the week.

But January 1st would be on a Tuesday, I think most people would disagree that moving from a monday to a tuesday would be the start of a new week

Except that the millennium rolls over at ...1. There was no year 0, the calendar starts on year 1, so unless the first millennium is only 999 years long, it ran from year 1 through 1000, with the second millennium starting with 1001.

Except no because a new millenia starts when the calendar rolls over to ...001 (because there was no year 0), so it will be in 3001.

No. Week starts on Monday, so if its December 31st, January 1st is THIS week.

This is location dependant. In Brazil our week starts on a Sunday

I thought weeks started on Sunday but people agreed to start working on Monday

Only if you are in the US, Canada, some South American countries, China, Japan or the Philippines, where the week starts on Sunday.

For most of the rest of us, it will still be the same week.

This is not a showerthought, and it's not original. People have been making the "see you next year" joke since forever.

This is a friendly reminder to read our rules.

Remember, /r/Showerthoughts is for showerthoughts, not "thoughts had in the shower!"

(For an explanation of what a "showerthought" is, please read this page.)

January, oh January

Next week, next month, next year

So close, yet so far

The chill in the air

The resolutions we swear

January is almost here

A new year, a new start

Leaving the old, in the past

January, coming at last
