Buy an HD antenna and plug it into your tv. It’s free, glorious, uncompressed high def tv and you get all the local channels plus way more. I got rid of Fios 5 years ago and never looked back. If you really want live tv, sling is your cheapest option and honestly not that bad depending which package you choose.

Honestly if you live somewhere that an antenna works and great to use that (for free) and supplement with streaming services

Yep, op just make sure you get the right kind of antenna for where you are. When I lived on the east side a simple indoor antenna did not work amplified or not, and I ended up getting cable again. But i needed an outdoor antenna, when fios got rid of the local only package which is what I had I tried one out and it worked great.

I still use the same one now in east Providence but an indoor one would have worked, just a coxial cable plugged into the TV picks up the locals lol. Plus you also get the Boston stations. And if your house is wired for cable already just disconnect the incoming cable cord and connect the antenna to that and you just need one antenna for the whole house. If you have a lot of TV's get an amplifier to boost the single. I have six TV's running with one $60 antenna and one $20 amp. Although prices will likely be more today.

And I also use sling, my brother and I actually share it he's in Pawtucket and I'm in EP.

Dump the cable. Get a ROKU, or similar, and an over the air antennae. You won't miss much from cable.

Also — these carriage disputes are common with satellite, cable, and streaming. It sucks for the consumer, but it will probably be back in a few days if not today.

You're pretty late to the dump cable revolution and honestly, you missed the boat. It was cool to dump cable 10 years ago, but now every major player has their own app with their own subscription. It's not really worth it anymore, and if you like sports, it's impossible.

You can’t blame Verizon. Channel 12’s parent company is asking for a 64% increase in what Verizon pays them for broadcasting their signal. Would you agree to pay verizon 64 % more on your bill. Rhode Islanders should file complaints with the FCC against the TV station for abusing their license.

I like Fubo TV, a bit on the higher price point (I pay around $80 a month) but it has all the locals to watch the Patriots, and it’s one of the few streaming services with NESN (which is $30 alone on their own service). I keep Verizon for the internet though, you can’t beat fiber optic. I get the 1Gig/1Gig option, but you can get away with lower if you don’t do a lot of gaming/streaming.

Yep if you have an android you can even fake your position to watch out of network NFL games, I've been doing it for a while to watch Browns games.

I’m a huge Bills fan. Last season, P+ allowed you go in and change your zip code and watch that market’s local CBS station, allowing me to watch the Bills. I never changed it back. However, they have sinced stopped this feature, but my account still registers as Buffalo. I’m afraid to ever change it or end my subscription lol

I'd love to hear what channel 12 advertising customers are saying. Black out stops getting their message out to a large portion of their potential audience. So... is this like getting paid double for your service NEXSTAR? First from Ad revenue and then from cable co for distribution ie. us paying audience through our cable bills.

Only reason I kept cable at all was because it was $20 more for my total bill than internet alone. But sending out an email at 2am basically saying you can’t watch the patriots because we’re greedy is all I needed to pay the extra for YouTube tv

i have the same issue - until you guys can show me ONE app that gives me ALL my shows and local news and dvr and works EXACTLY like cable - i will NEVER ditch cable - idc about netflix or any of that bs - i just want to watch my shows! ALL of them exactly the way i do now. press power theres the tv and theres the guide and my dvr - i hear roku and youtube tv are good but i dont understand - im an insurance person 😂-if i still need to buy internet from verizon than whats the difference?

Did that about 3 years ago and never looked back. I can find any channel, TV show, sporting event, any PPV...you name it. Fuck these conglomerates constantly jacking up prices to the point no one can afford them, and forcing you to pay for crap you have zero interest in.

It's been a long time since I've relied on cable for local channels... Modern antennas are cheap and work really well. Cable is for the other channels and it has to compete with streaming now. Cable typically costs too much to really compete, especially with limited on-demand capabilities.

The networks are to blame, too. They charge ever increasing fees. The local channels don't necessarily see more revenue as a result and many of the staff are poorly compensated.

I'm glad Verizon is standing up another increase.

Keep the internet they’re still the best for that. But stream everything else even live TV. If you’re big on sports Fubo is the best. Not cheap but they’re the closest to cable in terms of selection IMO.

Haven’t paid for actual cable in years, just got some cheap Roku TVs and Netflix + Hulu + Prime. Can find anything else I want to see for free online and stream it to one of the TVs. Pretty sure the annual savings is close to $2.5k.

I use Hulu PLUS with Live TV and get all local news stations. It's $80 each month (I pay the premium for an extra ~$10 to not have to deal with ads on Hulu offerings) but it's totally worth it. The package also includes Disney Plus and EPSN Live.
