I’m missing the bad faith in his question. Would you kindly show us where that is?

−6

Sure.

OP claims in bad faith that John Fetterman has disappeared, when that’s not the case at all. He’s in the hospital being treated for a medical condition, and everybody knows this because he’s been very open about his struggles. I suspect you know this, too.

OP is just salty because his guy lost the election, nothing more.

Is it bad faith to ask if a person who represents not only the state of PA, but the entire Nation, is fit for the job? Should we not question people's ability to do jobs? It's done everyday, yet for one of the most important positions in the world, it's bad faith to ask?

Would you hire him to manage your business?

Trolls going to troll, I get it.

But he hasn't "disappeared" for weeks. He isn't Mark Sanford. He's in the hospital. https://www.inquirer.com/politics/pennsylvania/john-fetterman-depression-hospital-return-soon-senate-pennsylvania-20230324.html

It took all of 5 seconds to Google that. If you're going to argue he isn't fit to serve, fine, but don't bullshit and gaslight all of us by saying he disappeared and if Oz would do a better job.

But again, trolls will troll.

"Would you hire him to manage your business?"

He has a diagnosed mental health illness for which he is receiving the best treatment available. As someone with loved ones that have suffered strokes and others that had mental illnesses, this is repugnant to me.

The reason few are attacking him on this is because the stigma on these issues has long passed for good reason. Put it this way, if he was a manager in a business it would be illegal to fire him because of it.

Let's put it this way: Lincoln spent his entire life and presidency suffering from what is now known as depression.

The electorate decided that he was fit to serve when they elected him. His health issues were known and documented to the electorate. It was blasted all over the news, by both the right and left leaning outlets.

The electorate still preferred him to Oz, who I will be generous in saying was a less than ideal candidate.

Once his health is in order and his medication is straightened out, we the electorate expect him to represent us in the senate as he was elected to do.

If his condition progresses to the point where he cannot serve, then the democratic governor will appoint a democrat to the seat which will result in a special election in ‘24.

Not much of a discussion to be had really. Seems pretty straightforward.

Today John Fetterman wrote another bill all by himself, and then he read one. After that, he took a stroll on the senate floor and debated with Rand Paul and Josh Hawley, where Fetterman demolished them on policy questions. Fetterman was then seen speaking President Biden, where the two of them had an intense conversation on Ukraine. It was a full day for the freshman senator, who has been present at every hearing and vote that has been made since January.

When I watched the Oz/Fetterman debate, I felt bad for John, although I’m a fan of neither of them. After that poor showing, it shows what a LOUSY candidate Oz was (and always will be), if Fetterman was able to beat him after showing visible difficulty with some of the questions. I think the PA governor’s race and this senate race embodied just how terrible our nations politics are.

1

WebAPI t1_jdqo2u2 wrote

I think Fetterman is not fully recovered, but is in his way to be. Even if he doesn't regain his previous strength, stamina, etc. I think he has enough ability to serve in the Senate capacity.

https://www.factcheck.org/2023/03/fetterman-working-on-legislation-while-in-hospital-contrary-to-social-media-claims/

He's already done stuff like working the bill on train regulation, which he cosponsored with an Ohio senator.

Some senators who have decent health and not hospitalized actually do nothing except vote against bills that will genuinely help their constituents, by choice. So I don't think Fetterman is doing any better or worse as compared to other senators. Many others are so aged that I think they don't want to spend time doing much besides fundraising anyway.

If Congress actually worked like it is meant to be, with robust debate and many bills to consider and unconstrained bipartisanship, then I might fear he could miss out on forming policies important to PA. But unfortunately due to party polarization, and few bills ever going for a vote, there's not really that much for him to do.

I'm curious, what do you think a day in the life of a regular senator is actually like?
