I saw them at the Whisky a Go Go before they appeared on SNL. KROQ was playing "New York’s Alright If You Like Saxophones" and "I Don't Care About You" in heavy rotation.
I was expecting Lee Ving to be a typical punk singer, but I was blown away by how good he was. Early in the set they played some kind of jazz-style song and I realized the guy had some amazing vocal skills. One of the last songs they did was Hank Williams was Queer, which got the crowd laughing and riled up.
Fucking great show.

I saw them around that same time. They were always a good show.

Ving has the coolest back story. Moved to LA and was invited to a punk show. Shocked that people enjoyed it so much so he started FEAR. Had previously been trying to break into the jazz scene.

I had one chance to see them in Philly back then and they pulled a Sex Pistols and didn't show up. I missed my chance.

I saw them at First Avenue in Minneapolis. That was a blast.

Was it by any chance the opening to Beef Baloney? Such a great singer!
