WHO the froggin' frack was Jolene that Dolly's mans could ever think of leaving this brickhouse built golden-tressed countrified goddess of wit and song?

Jolene could only have been the debbo himself in a lady suit.

I don't even like country music. I avoid it. But Dolly? I've seen her sing and her appearances on talk shows and such and I have liked every second. Her charm and sense of humor are stellar. I know people kid about her physique. But I think the key to her attraction is actually everyone looks at her and thinks, "Man. We could hang out."

She seems very down to earth and relatable especially when she’s speaking anecdotally to her audience between songs. She talks about her youth before she was famous and shares a lot about her early family life.

You know now that I think about it both Dolly and Loretta Lynn shared an Appalachian childhood mired in absolute poverty. I'm not sure why Dolly is so adored and Loretta isn't. Loretta doesn't have a lot of haters, but we don't hold them at the same level. Could be Lorettas years of addiction - I hope it's not just because Dolly is traditionally "pretty" and Loretta not so much.

She strikes me as kind. Not nice, as nice is often hollow or fake. Being nice as a psychopath is easy. You don’t care and just say the right words and all that.

But kind shines through. You go the extra mile, you give of yourself, you care about others. She has done a ton of work to help others, and I have never heard her say an unkind word.

110%... I have to travel like 100+ nights a year for work, and probably 75% of those nights have to do dinner with clients. I usually tell them to pick whatever they want since it just goes on the company card, and 9 times out of 10 they pick some fancy steakhouse and we all go do the filet and lobster deal or whatever... If you'd told me a few years ago that I'd get tired or good steaks I wouldn't have believed you, but it is absolutely true for pretty much everybody on my team. When we don't have clients to take out we go for street cart hot dogs or Waffle House or cheap pizza or something...

I guess it isn't necessarily always the case, because I've had eggs Benedict for breakfast 4-5 days a week for like 2-3 years and am still not tired of it, but I'm guessing that's the rare exception not the norm.

bingybunny t1_je0ryz1 wrote

an expensive surf and turf is great but in general that kind of steak house, they often have super boring food. side veg, side potato.

also really the worst if you don't eat meat or drink liquor

3

ValyrianJedi t1_je0w2al wrote

Yeah, the sides definitely make a big difference. The 3 cities I spend the most time in are NYC, San Francisco, and DC, and luckily those all have Mastros that clients seem to like a lot, and I usually really like their sides and apps even if I'm kind of tired of steaks. They have a seared tuna app that is insanely good, and I can usually go for oysters. Then we do usually end up getting a lot of potatoes, but normally either these mashed potatoes with lobster in them or these cheesy scalloped potatoes, and I'm usually in the mood for at least one of those. And I don't know how they cook them but they have these sauteed mushrooms that are insanely good...

But yeah, a lot of places it's basically just a steak, a baked potato, and asparagus or something. Which is admittedly great food, but gets old pretty quick.

People tried to make a scandal of her marriage--that she travels without her husband, isn't seen in public with him.

She said he doesn't like the traveling she has to do. As for not being seen out with him, they DO go out, but she dresses casually, without the wig and outrageous clothes or heavy makeup. She goes out as his wife, not as Dolly Parton the Celebrity. I've read it's difficult to recognize her and I don't think too many photos of him exist.

And honestly, I’ve known guys like him.

Perfectly happy with simplicity in his own life without interfering with hers. It’s interesting as I wouldn’t be surprised if Carl is probably her rock. Able to give her an expectation of home and a good dependable person back there she can just be herself around.

It may sound kinda like he does nothing but really think about it. He keeps her grounded, shows her it’s ok to enjoy the little things in life, reminds her that, while she is extremely talented, she is still the lady he fell in love with when they were unknown, encourages her to strive to do what she wants to do, refrains from even being in the background or commenting on her, and never tries to be anything by a devoted husband.

Overall, Carl is probably the perfect celebrity husband for her (and probably a lot of celebrity women to be honest). Hell, I don’t have a bad word to say about the guy as it seems he never impeded Dolly in any way and ‘gave her’ to the world and by that, showed us why she is a beautiful and talented songwriter, singer, lady, and legend by her own hand.

You may not be of faith….but if there is one, God bless Dolly Parton.

I legit think, based off my opinion and little else, that dolly parton likes singing, and is either an introvert or hates excessive stardom.

Given that no one knows what her husband looks like, and that she wears a wig, I wouldn't be surprised if her boobs are part of a bodysuit or something to add to the illusion.

4

Texas_Crazy_Curls t1_je2vqp9 wrote

I’ve always thought that her boobs are a body suit. Steel Magnolias was the first movie I was introduced to queen Dolly. Her sweater, dresses, everything cover her clavicles. As in you never see her actual cleavage. I wonder if that’s how she’s able to live her life unrecognized. Takes off the wig and body suit and leads a quiet life.

Fuck off. You know what also sucks? Presuming you know someone and judging them for their personal decisions about their body. Even worse, you're trying to mask your patronizing attitude behind sympathy. Everyone sees through it, especially if you do it IRL.

Edit since they blocked me: I understand she makes jokes about it. Regardless of her past, it changes nothing. She likes them, she chooses to keep them, it's still a choice she continues to make to this day and every day since she got them. She doesn't see it as a bad thing for her body. You are projecting your own personal taste. And how about the next person who chooses lots of plastic surgery. You'll judge them and pity them even if they are happy with their decisions.
