I get called “Boss” a lot which is weird because I’m the boss of nobody. Maybe it’s just because I’m intimidating or something. Or maybe I’m not intimidating at all and they are calling me boss ironically.

I'm a middle manager with about 15 people underneath me, I call my employees "boss" every now and then and no one blinks an eye.

Mr. Green and his wife, and Mr. Withee and his wife, called everyone "fella" back in the day. Green was from The County and Mr. Withee was from Pittsfield.

Might be that in the Springvale, Maine area in the '60's, 'fella' was slang for a gay man. I'm not sure how widespread it was used that way. As reported by a man who lived there.
