I'm familiar with the metaphor. It's still an incredibly destructive and deluded way to live.

It isn't , delayed gratification

You sacrifice the present for your future, that's suffering

You go to the gym and tear your body apart , that's suffering

All acts of discipline are suffering

Delayed gratification isn't the same thing as suffering.

Your perspective is flawed. Going to the gym doesn't have to be viewed as "tearing your body up". It's only suffering if you perceive it to be so.

Discipline is also not suffering.
