It's all the goddamn same addiction IMO. It's an addiction to happy chemicals in your brain.

I abused alcohol for years but I couldn't give two shits about alcohol really, it was all about the effects.

Abusing a particular type of drug can lead to physical dependence but that's pretty much a side-effect, the addiction is to the happy chemicals.
