Headed there on Sunday, hoping beyond all hope I get to see it. Was this taken from Tunnel View?

Opposite side. You can't see horsetail falls from tunnel view. You need to be in the east side, like the el capital picnic area or further east

There's more info on the nps website, you need to take the shuttle bus from the village I believe as they close off some roads to stop overcrowding

Nah - this would be somewhat facing tunnel view based on the perspective. Have fun ! Such a magical place.

How right you are. Had friends who were obsessed with Yosemite but I couldn’t grasp why. And then finally got there myself. Tunnel View at sunrise took my breath away. Didn’t get it back until we were back in town…though me being out of shape and hiking may have contributed to that lol

Yellowstone is my favorite place on earth, but seeing Yosemite for the first time was truly surreal. Yellowstone is a 10/10, has everything, but it's so spread out. Yosemite is like taking 80% of Yellowstone's beauty and cramming it into 5% of the area.

At some point I will get to a National Park but I had not decided on one until this post and chain of comments. Yosemite it is for me! Zoomed in and really grasped the vastness, the scale of it. Grand Canyon was leading the pack earlier but just got lapped, but I still want to walk on the Sky Bridge, maybe ride a poor donkey around, who knows get wild with it.

It's from four mile trail, you're looking south west. Tunnel view would be west south west. Trying to see horsetail from Tunnel view would be looking north east but the nose of El cap would block the view.

Fair warning the ground is currently insanely icy in curry village, so I would come prepared for that

We just walked most of the valley in sneakers over the weekend.

yeah most of the valley is totally fine, but in Curry Village the ice has been really bad the last few days. Source being I live here

Why don't people hang out right on the edge of El cap or whatever that peak is, to get a more direct view of the waterfall?

too much snow and ice up there currently

I'd imagine you could do if you're experienced enough, but it's not necessarily something I'd recommend

Make sure you have a reservation to get into the park!

I think I'm good! (God I hope so). I have a campsite booked from Monday-Saturday and in the confirmation email it said you don't need a reservation to get into the park if you have a campsite reservation. Here's hoping!

Or lie like me and say you have a hiking trip the next day, they let you stay for free in the hiking section.

We truly intended on hiking, but we had a friend that struggled carrying stuff a quarter mile from the car to the site. Didn't want to force 8 miles and 6k elevation change on him the next day.
