They need to put some fencing on that roof. This is the 2nd person to jump in 4 months.

Did you read the article? As a result of this incident they will keep the door to the bar's outdoor spaced locked at all times.

I did, but I must have skimmed over that part. Thank you

If you are familiar with The Vessel Hudson Yards they had to put nets because so many people were jumping.

Kinda gross to be posting this. Let the man’s family have some peace and dignity.

Sorry but its CT related, if you knew the guy personally condolences but suicides have always been in the news. This is not something new.
I did not write the story sir or ma'am.
mynameisnotshamus t1_j63vnof wrote
No one thinks you wrote this and it doesn’t matter where they guy is from. You are trying to benefit (in the dumbest way, Reddit karma) from someone being distressed enough to end their life. That is gross. I hope you make better decisions in the future.
IndicationOver OP t1_j63zj6x wrote
Sir or ma'am what does Reddit karma do for my real life? I'll wait. I post in r/connecticut often, you can message the mods if you feel I violated the rules.
I also get downvoted plenty because well I that is what happens on Reddit when people don't agree on topics.
With all due respect, you can fuck off.
Someone posted a story of a mother who just killed her 2 children from Mass....not even news out of CT. Did you do the same in that post, I am sure you can find it since you are on here often like I am.
mynameisnotshamus t1_j640rfm wrote
I don’t know why you keep chirping back. Lots of assumptions and projection outta you along with attempts at passive aggressive BS.
Someone committing a crime is not comparable. If you can’t see that, again… do better.
I posted my opinion to your post and I stand by it. If someone disagrees with you, downvote. Fuck off? - you’re a silly child.

Keep chirping back? I am simply replying to you for throwing accusations at me how old are you 15?
I will help you do better, blocked.

It's news and it's CT related. It's just that simple.

I fully get your point, but there’s also the “why” aspect. Is it helpful to anyone to know this information? Is it just rubbernecking? You choose to have your actions add value or not. If they don’t add value, should you do it? Ultimately that’s of course up to you.
Pew_Pew_Petey t1_j653g13 wrote
I totally get that, and appreciate the thought process...but, in my opinion, "value" is subjective when it comes to news/information.
mynameisnotshamus t1_j6546kt wrote
I agree. I’d also love to know how someone values something like this though. Morbid curiosity is definitely a thing I’d say we all take part in. I’m not sure if that’s valuable though. Maybe on some level it is since so many are into it? My judgement is not on the viewer, it’s on the poster.

Agreed. I also cant believe the author thought it would make sense to cite his home value at the end. This type of journalism is why MSN is a laughingstock.

I both agree and disagree. In this case I think OP has shown immense respect for the gentlemen and his family, even calling out apathetic commenters down below for potential bias.
I feel for the family, as it is an awful thing to have happen. But talking about it is the first step to being able to address things like this. Suicide is an awful reality that far too many people resort to from ALL WALKS OF LIFE. What can be done to help? Honest discussions regarding reality are important, no matter how gruesome. There is a difference between posting for points, and spreading awareness/news.
Edit: grammar
mynameisnotshamus t1_j652qaj wrote
Ehhh. It was posted without comment. That’s a “hey, look at this” post. OP may have commented later, and they may have had hopes of raising general awareness by posting, but without that context it doesn’t initially appear so. There was no “honest discussion” brought up by OP. If that is your intent, you’d tend to actually say that.
I don’t think there are many people who aren’t aware that there’s a lot of people out there suffering and many who take their own life. Simple awareness doesn’t do anything. If you’ve ever been involved in anything super tragic or known anyone who has, having it appear in the news can make it even more difficult. Edit: adding: I’m in no way saying I’m right here. I’m just stating my opinion. I appreciate the discussion.
R_revolutionary t1_j655xw3 wrote
That is a good point. Actions always need to be thought out and account for collateral damage, OP couldve relayed a stronger, more sympathetic message. I think the census is split between how victim families respond to this kind of attention. On the one hand, I’ve known families that just want to keep the name and memory alive and posts like this are okay. On the other hand, many people do get re-triggered seeing things on social media. Hopefully I’m not overstepping and I mean no harm, but no one can absolutely avoid a topic. If you know something will not be good for you to see, it’s usually on the consumer to avoid it. I appreciate the conversation, and your opinion. Ultimately I believe things like this should be posted in a public forum because: friends and family may not have otherwise known without mutual connections seeing/sharing, certain trends can be tracked, and the public is less likely to deny an issue exists when they’re confronted with the reality of it more frequently
mynameisnotshamus t1_j656nk3 wrote
Some good points. Im not pro being the person to start the gossip chain. If it’s brought up, I’ll discuss it to a point though.

Welcome to mainstream media, what else would you expect? These "news" outlets literally show murders on their stations pretty much every night. Imagine losing a loved one to violence and then turn the TV on and actually see and hear it? These are disgusting human beings...
mynameisnotshamus t1_j651f6g wrote
Of course. I’m not talking about mainstream media though. It doesn’t mean that the fine people of Reddit, who don’t get advertising dollars, need to perpetuate it.

Your point? You’ll have to excuse me if I’m a bit indifferent to the ‘tragedy’ of a millionaire who chose to use his last moment on Earth to ruin what I’m sure was an otherwise peaceful or uneventful evening for probably no less than a half-dozen people who will need to remember either watching the sad-sap hit the ground or be the one forced to shovel it into a bucket.

Would you say the same if they were of middle class income?
Stress and depression is not tied to one particular tax bracket you know that right? Don't be that guy, he left 3 kids.
Plants_Golf_Cooking t1_j64ykur wrote
Considering the comparative ability of one class to get help over the other I would say it is not a perfect tit-for-tat to the point that I would certainly feel different, perhaps even sympathy were it from someone who, I’m just going to guess, had stressors that were a little more real. Why should I feel bad for someone who gets evicted from their home when that home was a mansion? I feel a similar logic applies here.
IndicationOver OP t1_j651oot wrote
You are entitled to your opinion I don't agree but I understand your point also.
I do not know this mans life and what he was going thru, like I said before outside looking in seems like one would think he has a perfect life.
If money is all that matters to you I get it, in your head rich people do not have the right to have depression, stress, or suicidal ideation?
