tl;dr it’s worth it for a movie you really like (Marvel movies are generally the best, in my experience) but the effects can be disappointing.
4DX. It’s really cool to “feel” some movies. For example, the scene in Black Widow where they’re in a helicopter. It was snowing in the theater, you could feel the vibration from the helicopter engine, and they had the helicopter’s door open in the movie, so you could feel the wind rushing through. Then when it crashed, you could smell the burnt wreckage.
In Shang-Chi, during forest scenes, they pumped in the smell of fresh bamboo. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, you could feel the wind as he swung through the city. In movies with gunshots, there’s puffs of air that come out of the headrest, so it feels like bullets fly by your head. There’s just a lot of really, really cool little moments like that.
It’s not great for every movie, though. In No Time to Die, there were so many gunshots that they just used vibration instead of the headrest puffs. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the chase through town scene was a nightmare because the chairs were rocking so hard. I didn’t even bother with Top Gun: Maverick because the trailer was so intense.
