They’ll have to cut power to your lines unfortunately to get the tree off of them. No idea what the priority will be.

I've always loved crazy weather, although never a fan of wind. Always a fan of thunderstorms and what not, but during that last hurricane we had a tree fell on my neighbors house and since then I've been a bit more terrified of strong winds (i hated wind enough before then anyway.)

I still admire the awesome power of nature. Nothing I can do to control it, whatever happens happens. Just real scary.

No reason for sirens. Wind is strong, but it's coming straight at us. Storms are happening way further west. That being said, I wouldn't let any small dogs out for a bit. Some patio furniture might become your unwanted Christmas gift.

lennynobeard t1_j1d111i wrote

Sirens are likely from First responders and not storm sirens. Lots of trees down on wires and homes etc require FD and PD response

5

Synergiance t1_j1e9g1l wrote

Plenty of reason for sirens. Fire trucks blast their sirens getting to fires, and I’m pretty certain that’s what I heard, barreling down main st.

You should be able to open the garage by manually pulling a red handle overhead.

Wonderful-Sport1201 t1_j1d19k0 wrote

We have a detached garage with no other way in besides the garage doors. Can't pull the red handle if you can't get inside. It happened to me back when we were hit with sno-tober and lost power for 5 days. Good times.

There are openers with battery backup for around $100. Probably a good investment if the overhead door is the only way in.

1

GunnieGraves t1_j1dlzvy wrote

It’s a detached garage with no entry except the main door. There’s a lock that can be unlocked and pulled out with a cable on it that functions like the red handle. But it’s an apartment complex and maintenance controls the keys.

That said, Eversource has miraculously already restored us. There were about 1300 by me out due to a single branch in the lines so it was a quick fix and a good chunk of people back in service quickly.

Wind isn't a huge issue. It will probably kick some things around that knocks into power lines, causing some power outages.

If you are close to the shore, flooding is something to be concerned about.

hexidist t1_j1cyqo0 wrote

We are in a better situation than most of the country at the moment. Don't go outside and prepare for power outages as best you can. There is no risk of storms that can create highly destructive conditions. Hope you trimmed your trees, but at least you won't have to find your car 4 blocks over.

Thanks - well it is an issue for me to lose power because my heat functions with Water so I could not shut it off before leaving. So if I’m out of power when freezing temperatures hit, my pipes will likely burst… and I am in Singapore haha

6

hexidist t1_j1cxl0v wrote

We pay exorbitant amounts to Eversource. I know there are a lot of expected power outages throughout the state, so they are staffing a lot of people to try and handle it. Low Temps won't hit until later, but if it is an emergency, they might be able to provide guidance.
