Oh man that’s tough. Hopefully it’s not too bad and you have homeowners insurance. Glad to hear everyone is okay.
Sorry to hear that.
Oh, no how scary, I’m so sorry
🙏🙏🙏- Didn’t mean to post the thumbs up. I’m dealing with one of those iPhone keypads.
🙏🙏👍
4000+ in CT so far without power
Almost at 10000 now
15000
28000
34000
41000
47000
53000
57000
63000
68000
78000
85000 fuck I shouldn't have taken the under
93000
(Eversource only)
Any bets on what the max total will be?
O/U at 100k?
Damn. With the way it keeps going up I want to say the over, but I keep hearing that the worst of it is happening right now.
I'll go for the under, eversource only.
Worst of wind should be ending for most, will be a gusty day though
We just broke 100k on poweroutage.us
A tree fell on our lines to the house and we still have power. Do you think Eversource makes us priority or we fall down the list? I figure live wires should be more dangerous no?
They’ll have to cut power to your lines unfortunately to get the tree off of them. No idea what the priority will be.
In New Britain and it’s to the point where we can’t go to sleep
Same but I just woke up and missed everything. Was it that bad?
Yeah it was nuts, bad enough to make me completely re think my long standing viewpoint of “wanting to witness a tornado in person”
I grew up in Alabama and can confirm you do not want to be anywhere near a tornado
After the macroburst the other year I think I’ve experienced as close as I want to get to a tornado.
I've always loved crazy weather, although never a fan of wind. Always a fan of thunderstorms and what not, but during that last hurricane we had a tree fell on my neighbors house and since then I've been a bit more terrified of strong winds (i hated wind enough before then anyway.)
I still admire the awesome power of nature. Nothing I can do to control it, whatever happens happens. Just real scary.
Lost power at 4:54AM. Woke up from a big bang sound, which I assumed was the electricity cutting out.
Guess I should add that I’m in the Danbury area
Power went out here in Roxbury maybe an hour ago
But bang is usually a giant fuse blowing when a line gets shorted out. There's one near our house that's gone a few times and you about need to get fresh underwear.
woke me up 4:30 in Cromwell I’m over by the TPC. So windy can’t fall asleep
Same. About 20 min ago. Cant go back to sleep.
Yup. Woke me up about a half hour ago. Debating getting up or trying to fall back asleep
South central CT, enough to wake me up and relate some things nicely. Still have power though, fingers crossed it stays that way.
6am, Tolland. Woke up, no power. Wind is nonstop. I’m supposed to go to work in an hour but I don’t know if there’s power over there
I live by UCONN Storrs, and yeah it's crazy gusty. I work with animals and need to get in to make sure they're ok, but im waiting for daylight so at least it won't be quite as dark... still, I'm sure the backroads will be an... interesting drive...
Lost power in my part of stamford
Hartford here it's really loud
Got some power flickers here, but surprisingly my power has held. It’s still quite windy and I hear sirens. Northern Fairfield county.
No reason for sirens. Wind is strong, but it's coming straight at us. Storms are happening way further west. That being said, I wouldn't let any small dogs out for a bit. Some patio furniture might become your unwanted Christmas gift.
Sirens are likely from First responders and not storm sirens. Lots of trees down on wires and homes etc require FD and PD response
Plenty of reason for sirens. Fire trucks blast their sirens getting to fires, and I’m pretty certain that’s what I heard, barreling down main st.
Woke up around 4am to the wind. It was pretty scary for a couple of hours but seems to have finally died down to a tolerable level here in Newtown.
It’s pretty quiet in Danbury now too
Also in Newtown, have not lost power yet have you?
We still have power.
Simsbury here - neighbor's generator woke me up. No power yay...
Same here…
I'm glad I'm not the only one, I woke up slightly concerned. I hear the wind and trees cracking in the distance 😵
Also in Tolland county and also got woken up around the same time. It’s nonstop since. Pretty scary
It's really intense here in Hartford; this was an excellent reminder to get my phone and backup pack all charged up just in case.
Lost power at 4:30 am here in northern Fairfield County.
Really hope we get it back before the temps drop.
A bunch of us local guys told eversource we weren't working Christmas without incentive pay for the holiday and eversource told us if we weren't working Christmas we can't work tomorrow or Saturday either. So like 30-40% of the local guys won't even be starting to help until Monday. This one is going to take a while if it's bad
Why does Eversource suck so much?
With the way this wind is blowing, I wish they sucked more!
This is a funny joke, and I will stand by it.
Well they won this one. We just told them fuck the incentive pay.
Thanks for the help. Sorry you’re not getting extra compensation.
18 to 20 mph winds, but sounds worse! I think the next few hours will be harsh. I shouldn't have binged all those natural disaster docs.
55 mph gusts.
Lost power here, sometime in the last hour. Xmas gifts trapped in a garage I can’t get into due to electric opener. Christmas ham in danger of spoiling. And we’re supposed to host.
You should be able to open the garage by manually pulling a red handle overhead.
We have a detached garage with no other way in besides the garage doors. Can't pull the red handle if you can't get inside. It happened to me back when we were hit with sno-tober and lost power for 5 days. Good times.
How is there no side access door, is that even up to code?
Oh no! Fingers crossed you get power back soon!
There are openers with battery backup for around $100. Probably a good investment if the overhead door is the only way in.
It’s a detached garage with no entry except the main door. There’s a lock that can be unlocked and pulled out with a cable on it that functions like the red handle. But it’s an apartment complex and maintenance controls the keys.
That said, Eversource has miraculously already restored us. There were about 1300 by me out due to a single branch in the lines so it was a quick fix and a good chunk of people back in service quickly.
Wow! A success story! Good for you!
Yeah I feel bad for everyone still without. I feel like I should go buy a lottery ticket or two. They’re still out there working around the corner and internet is down with no eta for restoration, but my food is staying cold, so I’m happy.
The ham will endure!
I just lost power
West Hartford
Oh no! That’s where I am 😰
You still have power?
Damn, we still have power near Hall
Have power, close to whiting ln.
No! Shit
Got mine back luckily

Power back in Danbury!
Is the wind part of things over now? I’m abroad and stressed out about my house haha (South Fairfield county)
Still gusty in Danbury. Was worse an hour ago I would say. Or maybe just because it was dark….
Wind isn't a huge issue. It will probably kick some things around that knocks into power lines, causing some power outages.
If you are close to the shore, flooding is something to be concerned about.
What? Wind is what is going to cause power outages and closes roads
We are in a better situation than most of the country at the moment. Don't go outside and prepare for power outages as best you can. There is no risk of storms that can create highly destructive conditions. Hope you trimmed your trees, but at least you won't have to find your car 4 blocks over.
What do you think is happening in the rest of the country my man?
I'm originally from Connecticut and now in Ohio we are having strong wind all day and currently our real feel is about -21 and will be dipping down throughout the day.
I'm not a meteorologist, but when a high-pressure system meets a low-pressure system, things get pretty fucked up.
Wind is THE issue.
Thanks - well it is an issue for me to lose power because my heat functions with Water so I could not shut it off before leaving. So if I’m out of power when freezing temperatures hit, my pipes will likely burst… and I am in Singapore haha
We pay exorbitant amounts to Eversource. I know there are a lot of expected power outages throughout the state, so they are staffing a lot of people to try and handle it. Low Temps won't hit until later, but if it is an emergency, they might be able to provide guidance.
My power is out in Southbury.
Same here Tolland County was woken up and can’t go back to sleep. 😩
Really loud wind nonstop. Just lost power
Canton School District has canceled school today as well.
Looks like the wind is slowing down in East Lyme
Danbury…no power
Lost power around 7am- a few hours after posting. Had a generator hookup installed YESTERDAY. Still hoping power is restored before this evening.
Working overnight shift in north central, so far it’s been pretty quiet outside of maybe two gusts.
Seems like updated forecast has the highest wind now between 6-9am.
Enfield right by Mass border, loud as hell I slept only a couple hours and haven't been able to go back to sleep.
Manchester here, still on for now.
Simsbury schools just closed due to power outages.
Almost 6:30am in Groton. Big rain drops and harsh winds but power is holding!
Wind threw my grill 8 feet away
Enfield closed schools due to multiple building without power. High schoolers were already out for the busses. I bet some were already on the bus. I didn't get the call until 6:37 and the kid's bus comes at 6:40 - she's the last stop.
Northern fairfield county. Windy but still have power. We do have underground cables in the neighborhood though. Hopefully we don’t lose power.
My car was getting tossed around driving up i91 to Bradley and they’re still having planes take off as usual. 🫡
😳
Today is trash day but because of the wind decided to put my recycling out this morning. When I took the cans to the curb, a random blue trash can was in my driveway. I pick it up and set it next to my other cans. 20 minutes later the blue can is gone without a trace. I’m starting think it was all a dream.
BAD. Tree across the road, no way out. No power, no water, no heat, no nuthin. No idea when or if restoration will happen. We can't get out unless we hike on foot. Hope nobody has a medical emergency on our road.
15mph wind and rain near the shore.
Yup same in Cheshire
Just woke up to it in Torrington
Can’t sleep at all. Scary as heck. The flag pole across the street is wobbling like crazy and the flag looks like it might’ve torn.
Woke me up on Glastonbury and we just lost power @ 6am
Bummer. Also in Glastonbury, but still have power.
East lyme power strong
In East Hartford. Wind and noise woke me up at 5:45am. Pup is crate trained but ran and got him as the wind freaked him out. He’s alternating between getting up and sleeping on our bed and on fIoor, I can’t fall back asleep, and normally start work at 8. It’s just a rough start to a holiday weekend.
6:45am Plainville area, moderate rain, gusts pretty harsh, can hear sirens in the distance, still have power
9am, power on, rain mild to moderate, wind gusts moderately spaced apart
3pm, rain has almost stopped, gusts have become more frequent and intense, brown out occurred, power on
Edits to add updates
I've been having brownouts but no blackouts thankfully
Still ok here in Stonington. Windy but services still on
Been up since 4:30, heard a tree snap and hit the ground, afraid to look out the window
We have power though windy in Stratford. Of course, high tide ~9am is the main concern.
My house was shaking all night. They just set off sirens for us to evacuate down by me
Never lost power (in the central part of the state)
[deleted]
Up in winsted, we've got power but spectrum is down and got a good branch landing on the car that luckily just missed the windshield
Power on n Old Saybrook
Downtown Stamford here. Crazy wind woke me up around 4:15 am. Pretty scary but I was getting wind like this quite often in north Texas, and it’s another reason why we left. I guess I’ve developed some degree of numbness to it at this point. We still have power as of 9:15 and things are significantly calmer. I hope the worst of the wind is over.
[deleted]
So far United Illuminating keeping the power on for me. My lines are underground.
Several trees down on my property, and my boat/trailer is flipped on its side. Thankfully the power is still on for now.
Shelton here. Power is out since last night. Neversource says 2:30 for restoration
Lost power in Avon at 3:45 and got it back around 9:45
Schools cancelled due to the wind knocking out some trees and the elementary school having no power
In Tolland County and had internet most of day with my generator, and now it’s suddenly out. I hope that means they’re working on power restoration.
Depending on where you are located, I just saw some trucks working over by the Birch Grove elementary school
Just got bumped to 6:45 restoration 😬
yea but i’m at castle greyskull

Decently sized tree fell on our house, no serious damage to the house, everyone is okay and our power went out an hour after tree hit. Stay safe🙏🏼
