If a meter person notices you haven't moved your car for several days they will start giving you vehicle storage tickets which is parking for more than 24hours in a spot. I found out the hard way.

I've lived in Cambridge for over 20 years and never had that happen to me or anyone I know. Do you have a resident permit?
SoulSentry t1_ivp8m0u wrote
I did not at the time, but I was parked on an unsigned street. It's in the law, but I think for permit holders it is much more rarely enforced.

Cambridge does have a storage fine, but as a resident I've been able to park my car on the street for months (during the Winter when street cleaning is suspended).

The storage regulation has an official exception for permit holders.
There's fewer and fewer spots where a nonresident can park for more than 2 hours, but does the city enforce the storage regulation at all these days?

Yep. Happened to me before I had a resident permit. I was parked on an unsigned street. There are still no signs there and it's odd because they can never tow during street sweeping due to it. They always come and the DPW says they can't sweep until traffic hangs the signs

How long ago was this?
And where was it? I don't know of any streets that don't even have street cleaning signs.

It's still there. On Amherst St on the odd side from the MIT medical lot to the corner of Wadsworth St. Only signs are tow zones to protect the side walks and corners. The other sign posts are just bare polls.

Thanks. The latest Street View shows a mess of construction, but before that there were 2 hour meters and street cleaning signs. So I doubt it's going to remain unrestricted.

I rarely use my car and have probably left it in the same spot for a month at one point and I've never heard of this.

Wowwww lame. I haven't had this happen and I drive <= once per week, but I guess I've just gotten lucky. That sucks!
