Any specific recommendations? An Amazon link would be nice.

Barber here. The corded 5 star Wahl senior is expensive, but will be the easiest to maintain over its lifetime. Follow the care instructions and get a can of compressed air to blow the blades out between uses. I'd offer to pay a barber to have them set the blade gap properly as shipping can knock it off track.

I think I have a Wahl 5 star detailer, and I feel like I'm electrocuting myself. I don't think it's an actual electrical issue, but it is painful; oil doesn't seem to matter, I don't think it's a blade sharpness issue (I don't use it very often because of this). Do you have any obvious tips or tricks - things that I could check out? Thanks in advance!

It could be the tension spring or a dull blades. The blade will rust if you don't put it away free of moisture and with a small amount of oil. I use a blower / canned air to blow out all hair particles, oil, then blow off and wipe excess.

Personally I haven't been a fan of Wahl trimmers. Andis T Outliner is the tits.

Blade gap. Interesting I never would have thought to ask a barber for help, but that makes a lot of sense. Thanks!

Andis masters, Oster 76, Wahl seniors are the 3 most mentioned here.

Curious what kind of oil you use with yours?

I used the oil they provided, then just used some grapeseed oil I had. I don't feel like it needs to be oiled super often, but I'm not sure I followed the manufacturers recommendation.

I once asked the barbers at ramstein air base what they used ages ago and they claimed they had to provide all their own equipment they just rented the space. Also claimed the equipment even commercial stuff ends up breaking fast as in you’re lucky to get 6 to 12 months out of an clipper before it burns out. That said for personal use I’m sure there equipment would last you 20 years. They use their clippers 8 plus hours a day.
