This is not true, he married her so she would not lose her family’s house after her parents died, as women were not allowed to own property at the time. They did not live as a couple

It sounds like she was a child bride but marriage is ultimately a legal agreement and it's just cultural norms that inform our necessity of sex in a marriage.
