I'm literally just moving down the street around HU/Capitol Heights but I don't have a vehicle. One trip in a van would do it for me and I prefer to move quickly and as swiftly as possible.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Nice “contractors” that you can find outside any UHaul and Home Depot work for cheap and work for cash

If you don't have a budget, just get a van from the Uhaul on K St. You don't want the cheapest movers that are uninsured moving all your stuff. Otherwise, go with Bookstore movers. We used them to move house about a mile from one end of Capitol Hill to the other. They were great, but a bit more expensive.

I don’t recommend task rabbit. They ran overtime; didn’t have the proper equipment, were slow and I ended up doing a lot of the work. I could have paid for real movers and done a lot less work for what I paid. Also, if you’ve never used TR before, I was surprised by the fee structure and didn’t appreciate it.

U-Haul if you have a driver's license and are up for the manual labor. 19.95 + mileage + insurance.

For that quick of a move, hiring labor might be a little hard, but it's been done a million times. See the other posts. Though, I was able to hire a few people to simply move furniture into a different room for floor refinishing refinishing.

Also, Capitol Heights is a town in MD nowhere near Howard University (I assume the HU). Do you mean Columbia Heights? If so, U-Haul in NOMA (called "Capitol Hill") or Brentwood ("Intown") are both super easy. Use the app or get a key at the counter. (The app is kinda terrible, but 24/7)

I still get Columbia Heights confused with Capitol Heights

I used Dolly for my last move. Cheap, but they were 4 hours late.

I’ve had good luck with TaskRabbit. You can also rent a van from UHaul

Actually, I went with them last time we moved (based on Reddit liking them), and definitely wasn’t good.

i haven't used them myself, but they have a bad habit of blocking bike lanes and sidewalks without providing a safe way around, then apologizing profusely when they get caught/reported, until the next time.

I concur. I used them two weeks ago to move into our house. They were fantastic. On time, efficient, friendly. Couldn’t have been better

College Hunks Moving is good. Unfortunately though, given the name, they’re not all that hunky.

I saw a sign near my apartment and thought it was a bunch of college bros trying to make a quick buck

I went cheap and totally regretted it. They still charge by the hour and could not be slower.
