I think you mean everyone seems to IGNORE Better Call Saul.

WhatsIsMyName t1_ja91wh6 wrote

Truly ignored, though, and I don't get it. The pacing may be a bit divisive, but I can't remember a prestige-level drama like BCS that got such little love from the award shows.

Ha, i love the internet.

Always working on binaries, all or nothing, love or hate.

Better Call Saul not getting awards doesn't mean that it is hated, it just means that other shows are liked and awarded more.

If you like or love it, then that is all that should truly matter.

brotherofiron612 t1_ja79zy6 wrote

More like ignored. Most of my friends have watched breaking bad but didnt give better call saul a shot. The ones that did absolutely loved it, gotta lend out my season 6 blueray now lol

I literally just bought a VPN after binging all 5 seasons on Netflix in a week just to watch season 6 lol. I'm so mad at myself for waiting this long to watch, but also glad it's already out and I can watch it all at once. Honestly, I might enjoy Better call Saul more than bb

brotherofiron612 t1_ja7z0a3 wrote

Honestly i think prefer binge watching shows over having to wait for episodes to release lol. I personally think better call saul was even better tbh, and season 6 wrapped it up nicely!

1

Sad_Ant227 t1_ja7zdop wrote

I go back and forth on that because I feel like binging it is nice because I can get to the resolution, but having to wait week to week is nice for something to look forward to. Last night I was at work and got excited bc i realized last of us was new. Also having to wait, I feel you absorb more, where binging you can lose a little bit. That being said, my addict brain is just like, all episodes now.

BCS is one of the highest rated shows of the past decade, so I'm not sure what metric you're using to measure how much people "hate" it

Paves911 t1_ja7j28t wrote

OP said in the Better Call Saul subreddit that the show is trash and doesn’t deserve any awards so I think he’s just projecting his feelings onto everyone else

The pacing is divisive. Some people love the slow deliberate pace of the show and others find it painfully slow.

1

Dennyisthepisslord t1_ja936o2 wrote

Personally I didn't buy it was the same guy who became Saul whatsoever. Just didn't mesh for me. The fun of Breaking bad and in particular that version of Saul was missing.

3

WhatsIsMyName t1_ja91q24 wrote

God, I love the pacing to death. I'm a complete sucker for a slow burn.

But even I, in some of those earlier seasons, was left feeling like..."OK, this is great but let's get to the meat and bones of the Saul story."

Took me a couple seasons for it to really sink in that we were already in the meat and bones and this is what it looked like.

Amazing show IMO. Crazy that they took that character, built that show, and made something on par with its amazing predecessor.

2

Paves911 t1_ja78ril wrote

Tons of people love the show :) myself included. The episodes are extremely highly rated and well reviewed online as well. Not sure where you perceive all this hate is coming from, unless you’re just trolling around because you didn’t like the show 😛 and if we used awards shows as our sole barometer for what’s good and what’s not then we’d be very lost because there have been countless movies/shows/albums that have been masterpieces deserving of accolades but never ended up winning any. Shit happens 🤷‍♂️

If awards are all you care about, it’s been nominated for countless awards. Being nominated alone should be an honor if you truly hold these awards in an esteemed light

Also it performed kinda well at the HCA awards not too long ago

Hopefully this will be the year it finally gets some of the award recognition it deserves, now that the show has concluded. But I certainly won’t hold my breath. Awards shows have never really been my bread and butter

But honestly judging by your posts it’s clear you’re not looking for a legitimate conversation; I suspect you just want an excuse to trash talk the show because you don’t like it and it bothers you that other people do

Edit: for anyone who doesn’t think OP hates the show, scroll down this comment chain. I only left the last part of this comment because OP was trashing the show over in the BCS subreddit saying it’s garbage and nobody likes it and it doesn’t deserve awards

6

idunnobutchieinstead t1_ja7dhyd wrote

What a strange misjudgement of OP’s intentions. It’s very clear OP likes the show and is upset and frustrated at how it has failed to win a single major award throughout its entire run, year after year.

And definitely don’t hold your breath for it to win anything for its final run, because the only major award left are the Emmys and I can tell you now that it’s not gonna win anything at all.

−3

Paves911 t1_ja7ecfp wrote

Definitely not a misjudgement; minutes before making this post OP was in the Better Call Saul subreddit calling it a terrible show. He said nobody likes it except Reddit and that it deserves to lose every award. Here is one such example of his trash talking lol

But to be fair, I totally see where you’re coming from! Without that added knowledge, this post alone doesn’t fully communicate the OPs intentions and it can be easy to misconstrue as a frustrated post in support of BCS. But nah. OP is just a hater 😂 and that’s fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the way he is trying to make it sound like everyone in the world hates the show is so weird.

And yeah like I said, definitely not holding my breath over any awards. Personally I stopped giving a damn about awards shows a long time ago

idunnobutchieinstead t1_ja7eotm wrote

I’m sorry, I feel so silly now. :(

I guess I put my own dumb feelings onto the post because I feel like they deserve at least a little something for the amazing work they’ve put into the show for 6 seasons straight. I’m a bit bummed out right now, not gonna lie! (Even though I know I shouldn’t care, but I do!)

−2

Paves911 t1_ja7fbb9 wrote

Nah don’t feel silly man!! I came into this thread with knowledge of OPs statements in past threads so part of my comment was based on that knowledge. After I saw your comment I went back and re-read OP and realized that without that prior knowledge, it’s super easy to take his message as frustration from a sincere fan. I 100% understand why you thought that and I won’t be surprised if other people think that as well so it’s probably good you said something that way I could clarify what I meant by the last part of my original comment! So no worries homie you’re all good 🤝🫂

And I feel you man. It’s absolute robbery that this show hasn’t received the accolades it deserves. But at least we know in our hearts how great it is and nobody can ever take that from us😤

3

idunnobutchieinstead t1_ja7vhym wrote

Thank you so much, buddy 🫂 You are absolutely right and thank you for easing my foolishness very kindly (rare on reddit!). I get the feeling that the cast and crew of the show do care to some degree about being recognised by their peers through these awards, and it’s quite sad to see that mostly they haven’t been. Or at least fully (because you’re right, nominations do count!).

Anyway, long live the Critics Choice Awards! 🤣

I think it’s because BCS never got the widespread popularity that Breaking Bad got, and it being a prequel to an awards show darling that trashed its competition had an influence on the voters to give awards to other shows regardless of BCS’s quality.

Rhea Seehorn gets little to no love, I can’t count how many times it feels like Laura Linney and Julia Garner have won over her.. they’re both good but she can’t get ONE Emmy? Golden globe? Are critics even watching this show?

1

Varekai79 t1_jadky4f wrote

Laura Linney has actually never won an Emmy (or any other major award) for Ozark. Nominated many times but never won. She's won Emmys for other projects though.

okay I should have fact checked but she is ALWAYS nominated for Ozark, I feel like rhea Seehorn doesn’t get nearly as much love at all it’s crazy

SnooDingos316 t1_ja9498b wrote

It is not everyone, just some of "experts judges" of the recent awards shows and I do not think they hate. Probably lots of them never even watch it and others just like the competing shows better.

Actually critics loved it. At the 28th Critics choice awards held in Jan, BCS won Best Drama beating HOTD and Severance.

So it is wrong to say the show did NOT win a single award. It is not true.

Bob Odenkrik won best actor, Giancarlo Esposito won best supporting actor but I agree Rhee Seahorn got screwed over even by the critics.

Awards are based on nothing. Breaking Bad had enough of a cultural impact to break through and become unignorable. Better Call Saul Didn't. It's predecessor already did the work and took the prize. Who cares.

Awards aren’t a direct and pure metric for the best. Oftentimes it’s about which show had the best network/studio/publicity push. There’s a huge amount of content right now, and the winners of these big industry awards are as much a reflection of the industry itself than their merits.

−1

kittentarentino t1_ja9xy4t wrote

It’s a spin-off on AMC. Award campaigns for TV are expensive, there are so many options. To be seen and chosen amongst hundreds of shows costs money that AMC doesn’t have. So they just hoped word of mouth would do it.

It didn’t. So it doesn’t mean it doesn’t earn it. It just wasn’t apart of the zeitgeist enough to barrel through and get the votes.

Yeah it definitely does a lot to stand on its own. I think a lot of us, myself included, wrote it off at first because of the nature of it being a spin-off. But holy cow if we weren’t wrong. The show really went above and beyond. The fact that people debate which is better, BrBa or BCS, and both sides have a very valid argument, is a testament to how great of a spin-off it is. Better Call Saul definitely did things differently than breaking bad and in some cases, did thing BETTER than breaking bad. They are both masterpieces in their own ways 💯

SnoIIygoster t1_ja7cbum wrote

I saw this question asked a lot while the show was still going on, and the only plausible answer I saw is that these institutions would judge this show negatively for being a spinoff.

Fuck them.

No one hates it. Awards mean nothing. And even if they did they wouldn’t nominate shows they hate. They like it enough to nominate but there are other shows.

It’s not that important. The show exists for you to enjoy.

your question is seemingly a throwaway one but there is indeed a mystery concerning BCS's lack of awards, seems almost like they're ignoring it on purpose. Is Vince Gilligan a Trump supporter or what?
