I’ve been ride or die “Chinese Chef” for awhile, living north of town I didn’t want to travel down into town for it anymore. But I’ll be damned, Golden Palace at Kearney and Kansas could take the cake in this city! Give it a shot if you haven’t had it.
Seems like a nice guy! If you haven’t, get their food sometime!

Corner 21, but it's more traditional Chinese.
This place is an unreal treasure. I travel for work so I eat Chinese all over the nation and Corner 21 is still number 1. I was just in Los Angeles, which should be a mecca for good Chinese and I was repeatedly disappointed.
Popping in here as a recent LA transplant… it’s a massive city and it has phenomenal Chinese food, but not at the corner American Chinese shop. Ya gotta know where to go. Also 2nd Corner 21, but still quite “Americanized”
Hop Woo on Broadway and Won Kok on Alpine. Just OK. The Korean food really stood out for me in LA versus the Chinese but since it's an essentially infinite city, you'd need hundreds of trips to sort the good stuff. Reveal your spots if you're willing!
Happy to! Like NYC it’s more neighborhood and dish based than one restaurant. And in LA that means getting out of LA proper… Alhambra is a solid start (south of Pasadena) for southeast Asian and pan Asian. City of Industry for Chinese. In DTLA Japanese is the go to. And yes, Korean is king in LA proper.

I want to like Leong's just because it is the original, but it's just too overpriced. The food is good, but not any better than five or ten other places I can think of off the top of my head.
I agree on that. The best value I've found is a buffet place in Nixa (Shanghai Buffet I think) like $6 or $7 and the box is overflowing with CC.
They are definitely high, but their cashew chicken is still the best.
I've been eating at Chinese Chef (and now Cashew Chef) my entire life. It's my favorite in town, but I haven't tried Golden Palace. FWIW, King's Asian Chef on north Glenstone has good sweet & sour, but the cashew isn't as good as Chinese Chef/Cashew Chef. I'm not sure about the rest of their menu.
If you can make it to golden palace sometime. Come back with your review! I would love to know other folks’ thoughts.
Btw if you like curry, try the Singapore Mei fun at New Oriental. Rice noodles with spices and shrimp/steak/chicken. Its legit 2 or 3 whole meals in one order. Also super nice people.
Shanghai Inn on Glenstone just south of Kearney is bomb and hand makes their egg rolls every day!
I have literally never ate here, but obviously I’m going to now!

Triple eight has very good food we try to hit there at least once a week at Kansas and sunshine
I like Golden Palace for sesame chicken, Hong Kong Inn for cashew chicken and crab rangoons, New China for orange chicken, pineapple chicken, and twice cooked pork, King's Chef for sushi options. New House has a peanut butter chicken which was really good the first 2 times I ordered it but the 3rd time the sauce was completely different and terrible. New China is the real hidden gem on the north side though.
Liked their General. Most places make it too sweet but theirs had some spice to it.

I've only been once but liked it. I'll have to see if they have vegetarian dishes for my parents. They loved Rice House's tofu but they don't appear to be reopening.

Gotta rec Golden Palace and New China. Chinese food in Springfield is a level playing field. North side, south side, doesn’t matter. Good is good. You realize how special it is when you move away.
Canton Inn hands down.
Rice house has a more authentic side menu, I used to go to the location right next to MSU campus all the time and I would see Asians getting a whole different menu. I should have asked for it but I was going for the cheap special when leaving labs.
The Riksha is the best in town.
I always go to King's asian chef on North Glenstone for their Hot and Spicy chicken, it's SO good! Plus it's just conveniently located for me and has a drive through lol
Hong Kong on glenstone, the line goes out into the street everyday for a reason. Enjoy
