Whatever that is called I have gotten before and I’ve always regretted it because they should call it celery with a side of celery

They got a discount on cases of celery

Food prices have gone up, so a lot of restaurants will either cheap out like this or charge more for some dishes. Sad but true.

the broccoli + steak at Fresh Wok is now broccoli in steak flavored sauce.

I finally had to give up on Fresh Wok. The risk of food poisoning finally got too high.

Fu Jian has always been terrible; I’m sure with food inflation they’re just seeing what people will tolerate.

Yeah I tried it twice because I live close - it was really bad so I won’t be going back.

I’ve never gone into Fu Jian expecting anything close to good food, but even I would be really disappointed with this

Anyone remember the late 90s early Aughts when fu Jian was the shit? When I lived in the fan this was a staple. I made this same comment a few months ago and got absolutely FLAMED but I'm out of the loop. What the hell happened to fu iian?! They used to be the only place in rva that would mix wonton and egg drop soup ffs

I ran an auto repair shop nearby back in the late 80's early 90's. Their chow mei fun was so good. I had it at least twice a week. Sad to hear it has gone downhill. Back then what was a Texaco on Cary also had the best ribs at lunchtime.

I lived a block away and went so much in early 2000s they knew me and always hooked me up. Shit rly was fire af back then. Sad it's not now

Edit: tbf I was almost always high and drunk back then 😂 maybe that's why it was so good lol

Yeah I pretty much used them as my grocery shopping back in the day. Their boneless spareribs were like candy.

sinyre t1_jcc61j9 wrote

Yes I do!! I was pregnant and lived on Fu Jian when I lived off parkwood.

I lived in those shitty 3 story apartments at Stafford and main. Frequently abused the secret parking lot behind sticky rice. Fu Jian was cheap, good, and saw me through at least 2 years of vcu lol

Don’t you dare disparage Fu Jian like this. I ate it tonight and had the time of my life.

Their general two's tofu with an order of crab Rangoon is still my number one comfort food though, and that shit will feed 2 people for 2 meals each!

Loved this place for decades. Noticed a drop in the quality of chicken a few years back. Used to be juicy and soft now just hard and chewy.

Place was decent in the 90s.

The Eatery is the only good option now. China Panda has been mediocre for a decade too.

zazzersmel t1_jcaahu9 wrote

lol this place sucked when I lived by the BP, sixteen years ago. the last "good" crappy chinese place i know of is china panda, but I haven't been there in a couple years.

ThePandazz t1_jcaz7an wrote

Is there a single good Chinese place in the fan? Fu jian was the only half decent one I could think of

authenticEccentric t1_jcc3rm3 wrote

We have tried China Dragon on W. Main several times and it’s usually decent, especially the beef with mixed vegetables and Singapore noodles.

3

ThePandazz t1_jcc57h6 wrote

Really? I tried them once and wasn't a big fan. The beef was weirdly chewy imo..

darockerj t1_jcb3d6j wrote

i've not been to the china panda in town, but i've gotten takeout from the one on quioccasin road a few times and dig it. i'm like 90% certain they're the same place but didn't want to tempt fate.

ThePandazz t1_jcb3rp0 wrote

I thought the same thing, I grew up in the west end and loved the one of quioccasin. I tried the one down here and they are definitely not the same place, the one on Sheppard had some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had

Ugh, can we please not post random pics of our food that we are upset about? It’s already ruined r/tacobell for me. Don’t wish that upon this sub.

You’re worried about r/tacobell being ruined? Lol.

I for one appreciate these posts, I’d rather not support crap businesses or waste my money.

queenraisin t1_jcdu89w wrote

I appreciate the heads up, but don’t need photos of partially eaten food. Overtime it just leads to people starting to put up shit posts like this with terrible photos for karma and I’m just so over it. Sorry OP for the rant, but don’t want to see this sub turn the way of others.
