why are the republicans down in alabama allowing this i mean for fuck sakes the crazy sob's have been afraid of getting micro-chipped by the government before it was even possible to do it.
asumfuck t1_j8by6eu wrote
they've never been afraid. They noticed their under educated demographic was afraid when there wasn't any viability to it. Now that technology has advanced, to a certain point, and it is usable to a degree. There is money to be made, so they'll be flipping their opinions immediately
fdxrobot t1_j8chj2j wrote
Allowing WHAT exactly??
“Chestnut said he wasn't aware of any Alabama companies that have tried to require microchips, but he got the idea after reading about a company in Wisconsin that offered the devices for employees.”
The author got the idea off some article he “read” and said “gosh, what if they FORCED folks next?!” There’s no risk.

if you think it takes actual attempts to enrage the evangelical right then sir you do not understand the evangelical right at all.

I mean, reading about something new and then being like "hmmm this could be misused in a way I dont think is illegal enough yet, lets get ahead of that" isn't exactly bad especially when its often complained that technology too often outpaces the legal systems ability to protect people.

There are absolutely companies using RFID chips in employees. To my knowledge it’s voluntary in the US (link to the example he read. Or “read”?) but I believe there is a European company that tried to mandate it. I’ll try to look it up.
I’m unsure why you’re doubting the risk of this? I could totally see a tech company like Tesla making this a thing.

Because they genuinely want a fascist surveillance state, and step one of their playbook is to accuse the opposition of doing whatever they are already doing or want to do.

Why would they need to microchip you? They can just give you a company phone.
Terrafire123 t1_j8ckjxt wrote
This. A company phone can do everything a microchip can do (2FA, tracking, etc.) and is far less invasive and dehumanizing.... And it's cheaper too.
What possible real-world use-case could there be for this? Aside from wanting to treat your employees like cattle by branding them.
foege t1_j8cy6r1 wrote
Thats so offensive, of course companies dont want to treat their employees like cattle.
The goal is actually to treat employees like caged chicken.

There is absolutely no justification for an employer to be allowed require specific health interventions or body modifications.
Be it Covid vaccine. Or an abortion. Or having a baby. Or a circumcision. Or a tattoo with all your health information so they can pull access it in an emergency.
If you want to have a heart attack and die, well, that is your right; as long as you’re of sound mind you can refuse to seek care. It isn’t your employer’s business.
They pay you for a job. You do the job.
They want to have a say in what you do when you’re not at work? Fine. Pay 24/7/365; if I’m always on the clock you can pay me not to have a beer as a condition of employment.
But if I punch out at 5, what I do at 5:01 isn’t any of your damned business.
