I was in LA and watching this on a TV on a hotel bar. It seems that more times than not when I am in LA there is a police chase.

My grandpa used to call my mom whenever there was a chase on TV in the 90’s, to tell her which channel it was on.

Orange County isn’t LA, but I know what you mean. Southern California (mostly LA and OC counties) certainly seem to have a disproportionate amount of high speed chases. It’s almost expected.

Either that or they’re disproportionately covered nationally (or on large cable news networks during the day).

I’m in San Diego county and it seems like we hardly ever have chases like they do in the two counties to the north of us. We sometimes have one, San Bernardino sometimes has one but they are far less common.

I don’t know why folks are downvoting you.

I assume you aren’t saying that’s what he “ought” to get, but it’s just your guess as to what he “will” get. And it’s not off-base.

And if folks think it is…may I remind them of this part of the article:

> He was already on parole for attempted carjacking and evading police.

HE ALREADY FUCKING DID THIS ONCE AND WE DID NOTHING.

As a society, we don’t take red flag/violent crimes like carjacking, felon-in-possession-of-a-firearm, serial DUI, or domestic violence seriously UNTIL someone is killed.

Until then…it’s plea agreements to stuff like reckless conduct and assault convictions, followed by probation or some amount of time in state-level prisons/houses of correction that gets reduced to laughably small sentences before the eventual “early” release.

On the one hand, we definitely over-police and over-incarcerate meaningless bullshit like drug possession, and I’m all for ending cash bail and massive prison/sentencing reforms.

But on the other…when someone shows you who they are…we need to listen and lock them up.

Sure, get them mental health help in prison. Reform prison so it’s not the shitty hell hole it is. But, for Christ sakes, get this guy off the streets so he doesn’t carjack and do this again.

Shit! I remember watching this! Near the end, the front wheel was just a rim. And the weedtrimmer was hanging off the side. I didn't know this guy stole so many and this truck!

There were like 20 cops with guns on him, a dog, shielded cops. And then he hit a car, then entered a gas station and then backedup and they opened fire on the driver. Who didn't die!

All the cars he hit, you know those drivers won't get shit from this loser.

Bit of a duh headline. I wonder what the stats are on how many times it's been used.

After he crashed right at the gas station, I'm curious why they arrested the guy in the white car.

He "refused to leave the scene" as the police took cover behind his wrecked car with his family in it.

Exploding_Testicles t1_iwv654l wrote

Wtf, so they arrested him and let his family remain in the car? Would they not let him move the car?

I'm not sure exactly. There is a video interview with him after he was released where he described what happened.
