Wake me up when In-N-Out breaks ground.

That might be a possibility. They’re finally expanding east of Texas with restaurants opening in the Nashville area by 2026, and they’ve said they’ll probably expand further than that.

Centinel_was_right t1_jdk9vnx wrote

I read about that. Can't fault them for being methodical, I can wait/move to Tennessee.

Hot_Legless_Dogs t1_jdkjndy wrote

Honestly I've had In N' Out and it's okay but nothing to go crazy over IMO.

The burgers at Dairy Queen are actually really similar.

Mid-n-Out. I’d put it below 5 guys honestly I’ve had it a few times now and have never understood the hype

bubbynee t1_jdlz7nc wrote

From PHX and I remembered when In n' out first got there. There were LONG lines. I went after the hype died done. They were good, but definitely not worth a crazy wait. I would put them a step above McD and BK, maybe a little ahead of Wendy's and a step below Five Guys.

Dave___Hester t1_jdo3zoa wrote

It's a step above Wendy's. Not bad at all, I like both, but it's not even close to being as good as some people say.

BiffWiff t1_jdnn9s6 wrote

Absolutely, Dairy Queen is even better, in n out is worse than McDonald’s. Absolute fucking trash. Cut your tongue off if you like that garbage.

We grew up on in-n-out and my whole family likes Shake shack more

Emeleigh_Rose t1_jdly5al wrote

Same here. I moved here from California and miss In-N-Out so much.

3

NHiker469 t1_jdnep2v wrote

In N Out is so mediocre it’s not even funny. I’ve never left there and been like, “yea, that was so good”. Never.

Shake shack on the other hand, is dank AF.

I get it, because I'm pretty stoked about concord Popeyes. Which, for those uninitiated, half of their traditional charm is they will fuck up your order. Which probably won't be seen as part of the charm around here.

But there are so many people around here. Some with money, some with taste. Some with culture, some just bored. Wtf is everything 'new' to new Hampshire just am infiltration of strip mall bullshit that kinda sucks and costs too much for what it is but we heard about it?

Aggravating-Job6465 t1_jdkzcwp wrote

I remember waiting in line for the Peabody sonic back in 07(maybe 08) as just a youngin it was 2 hours long.

What's the alternative though? There's not a big city in NH so it's not going to get a lot of the upscale chains. If something that's not a chain opens here, it's not a recognized brand "coming to NH", it's just a new business in NH. As for strip malls, it's a rural state, so most of your brick and mortar consumer businesses open in strip malls.

3

FruityRogelio t1_jdosbog wrote

I was more talking about alternatives to chains in general. One of the best restaurants in concord, for instance, is situated exactly in a strip mall. An og strip mall from the dawn of strip malls. Kathmandu bazaar is an ethnic grocery with a food counter. Place is amazing. I want more of that. Not FoodCorp's latest territorial infiltration, if that makes sense. This state is devoid of really worthwhile food. I drive an hour an half routinely to try shit because maybe there's Caribbean in Claremont. Getting giddy for new fast food is icky, imo. That said, I am stoked for popeyes

2

ThunderySleep t1_jdox1zc wrote

If it's not a chain, then it's not "Thing you've heard of is coming to New Hampshire!", it's just "New thing opens!".

And I'm with you on the state's food situation. You can find good food, but you have to look a little harder for it. The big offense to me is how much people will overpraise the completely unremarkable stuff.

Nothing, even Shake Shack, will be enough for me to navigate 28 in Salem voluntarily

Grew up in the area and every time I return I have an existential crisis by the time I hit the 39th stoplight

scajjr29 t1_jdm49n8 wrote

Same. Live 15 miles east of Salem, take back roads in whenever I have to go. Avoid 28 like the plague.

ThunderySleep t1_jdorlt0 wrote

I lived two blocks from a Shake Shack for five years.

My experience was eating it enough times in the first week of living there that I got sick of it and didn't have it again for like three years.

It is good though.

Smothered, covered, scattered, and chunked. But we're on the wrong side of the Mason-Dixon line. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

I don’t know if the ellipses are supposed to mean sarcasm, and I’ve got no stake in Shake Shack, but the two things you mentioned sound very delicious.

there really should be a sarcasm font, but until then I'll just type like sarcastic Spongebob to get the point across.

meanwhile, love a blood-orange lemonade. Panera used to have one but ditched it.

I've been to the one in Burlington MA a few times, and I probably won't go again. Super expensive, burgers aren't that great, and the service is incredibly slow.

4

ThunderySleep t1_jdos7wh wrote

I ate it a bunch in a short span when I moved near one once. It was delicious, but greasy enough I got sick of it quick, then didn't go again for a few years. When I finally did, it was the price that kept me away.

Isn’t this just mid-west highway rest stop trash?

Edit: I’m thinking of Steak N Shake. What is this and why is it better than a local ice cream shop?

AlexTheTolerable OP t1_jdkvgo4 wrote

Shake Shack is essentially the East Coast version of In N Out. They have good, simple burgers and really good milkshakes

5

ThunderySleep t1_jdosq4v wrote

Shake Shack's more like your fancy/hipster fast food burgers. Tasty, but expensive and greasy. Kind of like a chain version of what Lexie's is. (yes, I know Lexie's has multiple locations)

4

Spicehawk86 t1_jdl0zfv wrote

Five guys and shake shack are both better then In-N-Out. Not even close. Same can’t be said Culver’s.
