are mainstream films worth watching?

So I haven't seen any pirates, lord of the rings or batman movies, and I've seen 2 star wars films bits of some marvel and I think Jurassic world, but none of these films actually interest me, not just because of the fact I don't really like things that couldn't physically happen (Sci-Fi is hit and miss), but because people are so polarising with their views, like some severely overhype and some just shit all over them, so I just stay out of it.

Edit: I am planning to watch these eventually, I'm just asking for thoughts and opinions really

I will I just have a huge list to watch and I was just asking and starting a discussion, that's all :) like LOTR and star wars are both on my watch list so I can actually form a genuine opinion

Looking at some of the films you've posted about before (The Matrix, Fight Club, Blade Runner) you seem to exclusively watch mainstream movies already, so no harm in watching more of them. Might discover something you love.

Yeah by main stream I mean like the big blockbusters now, I see the matrix, blade runner etc as cult classics rather than mainstream because they weren't really the biggest at box office

What the hell just even is this question. Just go watch them, and if you can't get into it, then stop and go do something else?

To me the lord of the rings are masterpieces, and I love that feeling of adventure and companionship and brotherhood. The beautiful and magical places like Rivendell, about to be overshadowed by great darkness. It focuses on courage, friendship and magic. Please do watch the extended version when you start. The first 30 minutes will be slow, but worth it.

Star Wars is not all that different, it's a space adventure about people banding together to overcome great evil. I love it. Especially empire strikes back. It's a very philosophical movie, about righteousness, chivalry, companionship and knowing the difference between good and bad, the connection between father and son. You don't even have to care about magical things like 'the force' to understand the deeper meaning of these movies.

Pirates of the Caribbean is just a comical pirate movie. Very fun to watch with friends and family especially during Halloween. Don't take it too seriously.

Stop worrying over what others think so much and make up your own mind.

As for things that couldn't physically happen, much drama, comedy and other types of movies are physically possible but fictional. Just a few thoughts. Stretch your imagination.

Idk it's so alow and it has good moments and really dumb ones. The ending seemed really forcefully added in. It's 3 hours and could be cut down at least 30 minutes.

To answer your question, I don't think superhero movies are worth your time or anybody's, but stuff like The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park (only the first one) definitely are. You don't have to like blockbusters though, you can just look for other kinds of movies.

Honestly I wasn't allowed to watch lots of stuff till mid to late teens cause my parents were super religious and most movies were "filled with evil and sex" so... Even star wars I never saw till I was like 14? And there's nothing bad in those films.

I got to lotr when I was around 20 I think. They were ok but I didn't care for them too much. I enjoyed the Hobbit more. Then on a rewatch of lotr I fell in love. And everytime since then I just enjoy it more and more. Like, I have a tattoo now that I designed myself, I have a whole bedroom wall with lotr art, and posters, and props, and even my own woodburning project I just finished... Absolutely obsessed. And originally I was like "yeah they're good and ok but I'm not super blown away."

You are right about people overhyping films. That's why I stopped caring about hype for older famous movies. I'll watch it if in interested and I'll either enjoy it or I won't. People say Aliens (alien 2) is the best and I don't care for it. But I absolutely think the first one is genius.

Terminator 2 is considered the best of the franchise. And to me it holds up to that hype.

Blade runner i thought was so weird and incomprehensible the first time I watched. Then years later I was like, "Eh I guess I'll revisit it to review how bad it is for my YouTube." But it's an amazing beautiful film. Lives up to the hype but it tooke me two or three viewings to realize it.

Star wars is honestly the most overrated and overhyped set of movies of all time. I love star wars but there's no denying they're ridiculously overhyped. But I love and enjoy them. Reviewed all of them this year actually.

Watch what you want don't try to force yourself to like or hate it. And remember, with the SUPER famous ones it might take more than one watch to recognize it's greatness. ❤️

Well I personally hate when people trash, troll, and mock honest basic questions. I've been on the bad side of it this week on Facebook cause I asked a question about sex. And I got treated so bad from like 85% of the people there. People are just internet jerks cause it makes them feel powerful and better than you. They can go fuck off.

I mean Skyrim is my personal favourite game but I just haven't seen LOTR because I haven't had access to it in any way so I'm sure I'd actually really enjoy it, I'll give it a whirl but I'm reliving my childhood with the goosebumps show rn and I'm neck deep in college work

Leave No Trace - Before this movie Ben Foster seemed like a very good actor with an extremely limited range. Director Debra Granik showed that Foster can play an extremely reserved and emotionally damaged war veteran. Thomasin McKenzie was also brilliant as his teen age daughter. The Oregon rain forest where they illegally live is also a star. The Rider - I kept putting off seeing The Rider since I have absolutely no interest in horses or rodeo so I am glad it stayed at the Aquarius long enough for me to see this great film. Chinese director Chloé Zhao somehow manages to make great movies that truly capture the values of the rural western United States. This movie uses amateur actors playing characters based on their own lives and filming often started after the actors finished their real jobs. For a very low budget movie the cinematography is excellent. The Favourite - Sarcastic comedies are always best when they have no likable characters and this one has none. I was almost bound to like a movie with Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone but The Favourite was much better than I expected. Shoplifters - Director Hirokazu Koreeda always makes movies about unusual Japanese families that tell you so much about his country. This family of shoplifters is particularly unusual. My favorite Koreeda film is still Our Little Sister but this movie is a close second. First Man - This very good biography of Neil Armstrong deserved to do much better at the box office. Just like my top two of the year this is an extremely emotional movie about an unemotional man. The right wing attacks on this movie for being unpatriotic were laughable since the American flag on the moon looked far better in this movie than it did when I watched it live on TV as a kid. If Beale Street Could Talk - This movie of the James Baldwin book was very good. The cinematography and score were truly excellent. Black Panther - I saw Black Panther without reading any reviews since I had just returned from Buenos Aires and my Antarctica cruise a day or so before seeing it. I was not expecting an extremely feminist movie like this one. The misogynists and racists on the internet hate this movie but I loved it. Disney did make the noticeable mistake of trying to save money on CGI during the later stages of the movie and internet trolls are obsessed with that. Eighth Grade - This is a very touching and realistic movie about a plain and pudgy girl trying to make it through the last few months of middle school. Elsie Fisher is great as the girl. Writer/director Bo Burnham’s first film is a big change for a comedian and singer. Thoroughbreds - Of course a movie about a sweet and plain middle schooler needs to be followed with a movie about two hot high school sociopaths/psychopaths. This was a rather good sarcastic comedy staring the excellent Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy. Spider-man Into the Spiderverse - Who would have thought that a nearly psychedelic Spider-Man movie would be the perfect place to teach the physics multiverse theory.

Edit: and for the record? The Lord of The Rings trilogy? Not bad. Not as good as the books, but also not bad. I prefer the directors cut of all three.

I also like all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but I’m biased in that regard.

As a rule, franchises get weaker as they go. They become cash grabs, especially when not based on literature. So the Jurrasic, Pirate, Star Wars, & Hobbit/Rings of Power suffer from this.

The fans want SOME fan service. like theyre favorite character of old to meet their new favorite character. Or have favorites get together or revisit places or reference events. So writers cram as much of it as possible. Even if it doesnt logically fit the story at hand. So fans get upset. (Looking at you Fantastic Beasts)

DC Tried to give us too much too soon and crammed fan service into huge ensambles without building the characters. Marvel is great because they are taking their time and slow dripping easter eggs, cameos, and crossovers. Although they started out as all blockbusters, they are now content with just giving us product. Some are great, some are ok. None have been bad (IMO). But much like the comic books they are based off, Marvel is not afraid of exploring unknown characters, offbeat plots, and elaborate ideas. They know not everything will be popular. You dont NEED to see them all, but if you do you can spot references and feel involved in the world.

If you love it, watch it. Just know they won't ever live up to nostalgia or what you read in a book. Try and enjoy at face value. If you're not big on fantasy, dont expect to love pirates 4.

With Netflix, prime, hulu, disney, apple, hbo, paramount, etc there is no lack of entertainment. So find what appeals to you. Mainstream be damned. Good writers are few and far between but theyre still out there.

Thanks man, like I've said to several people, I'll get round to all the big names eventually, I'm just not too eager to do it rn, like I think I should watch Shawshank and saving private Ryan before back to the future or pirates, but I see your points :)
