It means they ran out of branded keys. Branded keys costs more but are typically brand standard. Most hotels keep a few boxes of these around for BOH or in case they run out.

This is almost certainly it. I've worked in quite a few hotels and thankfully only once had to break out the emergency box.

I stayed at this same hotel about a month ago and they had normal Best Western keys. So them running out is probably what is going on.

That's a blank rfid card. We usually use them to print employees ID.

Are RFID cards the proximity cards in hotels? Because this is the blank card that opens my room door.

Yeah they are about the same but the ranges are different. Rfid can be scanned further away. I think you’re right, hotel usually uses prox card.
