Planning on taking a trip out to Massachusetts with a few buddies during the fall, but wanted to know what places you guys would recommend checking out. A big fan of the mountains, forests, and small towns as well as being a bit of a photographer, so something a little away from the city would be nice. (Not necessarily camping as I'm not good with cold weather, so I'll probably be sleeping indoors somewhere) Appreciate any suggestions in advance

The best thing to do in Massachusetts during fall is to drive up to Maine and New Hampshire. 😝

Alternatively, cruising the Mohawk Trail and western Massachusetts can be a good time.

I mean hey, if you know of some spots over there, I'd love to hear them as well. But thanks for the input, will definitely take a look at them!

Well definitely look into the Mohawk Trail for MA to see if it’s your thing and also the areas around Mount Washington in NH!

Drove out to Greenfield on the 2 (coming from Boston) the other day. Millers River and a few lakes/reservoirs along the way. Theres also a wildlife refuge out there by Amherst. Lots of small towns out that way. It’s over an hour drive from Boston to see any of that so might be too far for your question

Mountains, forests & small towns in Massachusetts in the Fall = The Berkshires. You probably want to shoot for mid-October for peak foliage.

The traffic or the view? The view is phenomenal. Sometimes the traffic from leaf peepers can get pretty fucking bad.

Def depends on what you and your buddies wanna do on the trip. Day trips to places like crane estate or the harbor islands could be really pretty for pictures but don’t necessarily provide great places to stay or hang/drink with buddies nearby (apart from the campgrounds) unless you head back down to Boston for the night. I would recommend going up to the lakes region or the white mountains in NH, or even as far north as Acadia in Maine if photography is what you’re after and just getting a small cabin with some liquor and cards

Parker River Refuge (Plum Island) and Sandy Point State Reservation on a sunny autumn day...followed by beer at Riverwalk Brewery is a pretty stellar option!

Great Barrington area. Tons of hiking trails from moderate to high level. Beautiful views, great food, shopping…small town feel.

Wachusett Mountain has the Apple Fest in October. It’s a pretty good time and you have unlimited use of the chairlifts.
