We have a lot of stuff to give away.
Last time I donated a couple of huge bags of clothes I brought them to the Salvation Army on MLK Drive. I would have just dropped them in the donation bin in the church parking lot on 6th Street here in downtown, but it had been broken into and was reeking.
This is precisely why I asked. Thanks!
Take it to The Salvation Army store on JFK. Address: 900 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ 07087
It's a few blocks away from where Jersey City ends. They take everything!
I am not a supporter of The Salvation Army and their evangelical practices (no issues with others supporting them as long as they understand what they're supporting) so we usually drop stuff off at the Goodwill in Hackensack when we're driving past it (usually once a quarter). One off items I take to work in the city that has a bin.
I have a hard time donating to any of the god-based services but I also want to be somewhat effective. Catch 22
I usually give directly to the homeless. If it's children's clothes I would bring them to the salvation army. I haven't in a few years though.
More of a dress for success bundle than a practical keeping warm situation n
Then they're on five corners. Call ahead and you can drop off there.
York street project. The Women there need clothes like that
Totally agree. I like dropping stuff directly in the square. Especially if you have brand new socks, underwear, or Ts to throw in with the used stuff, they'll use all of it.
Hoboken Homeless Shelter
Community Treasures.
One time a shirtless man with a hospital wrist band approached me outside my apartment building, I gave him my shirt and bus fare. Maybe try that ?. Or there was a place in journal square on JFK by tonnelle that takes donations.
That Goodwill is gone now
Damn.. where has all the good will gone ?
community treasures.
Unfortunately the only place I've found near downtown is St Lucy's Shelter on 16th street. I recommend going early in the week as bins tend to be full by the weekend

FYI- the clothing donations bins in the parking lot for near Holy Rosary Church on 6th were recently removed. Not what you asked but a heads up because I know a lot of people used those.
