Do you have any suggestions how I could clean up the yellowness on my cover?
aghend75 t1_je4yaqj wrote
There are a lot of suggestions on the net for that. I have tried them all pretty much and none of them last long. The only one worth a damn is make a paste of baking soda and sparkling water. About 2 tablespoons of each. Wash your case really well with dish soap first then with a cheap toothbrush scrub the paste mix on the inside and outside of the case. Put a good layer on it and let it sit 10 minutes. Then rinse it off really well. Dry it completely. It will look better. I gave up on clear cases. None of them stay clear.

Obviously those wipes won’t do anything for the scratches, but I had the Samsung equivalent of your case and it’s left the same oily residue on the back of my S8. Those go away with some soapy water or a Clorox wipe

can you tell me what package (Color because there are many eg. green yellow)
el_redditero12 t1_je0w5he wrote
Sorry, no. I am in Europe and Clorox isn’t available here, so I use whatever local equivalent I have around the house. Currently using the store brand ones from Aldi. I seem to remember I used to use the yellow ones when I lived in Canada, but I’m not sure. These guys also seem to allude at the yellow wipes.

I think it’s cool too. But Apple should have used something to protect it from those stains and scratches.
lucellent t1_je1195g wrote
Sadly it's an aluminum thing. It happened to all iPhones with aluminium design
I believe the reason is UV exposure or something related to heat, and since those cases have some kind of pores/dints/holes, you basically end up with stains

I used to own the Jet Black 7 Plus and I put it in a SwitchEasy Glass case which was designed for it. The high gloss of the Jet Black’s back case is a super fingerprint and scratch magnet so once you have those case marks or micro scratches on it, there’s no way to polish it out.
TypicalJeepDriver t1_je143nw wrote
That’s simply not true. You can polish any sort of glass, plastic or paint with a high enough grit.
OP, I have done lots of automotive paint and plastic restoration. It’ll take specialized tools like a drill, polishing pad and a high grit compound but you can make it look new again. If that doesn’t work, you could try 3000 grit sand paper and wet sand it. Then polish those scratches out with a compound.
It’s a lot of work for something that is going to look like that again after you put another case on it though.
