My husband recently switched to an android for our upgrade because it was cheaper but since then, I haven’t been able to send him photos/videos. Either they don’t send at all or the quality is awful. Is there an app we both can download to share photos? He doesn’t have social media so I can’t sent through there.

Put a pin on it. Let’s wait a couple of months and we’ll see what happens

I’m using Google Photos app as it works fine on both.

If he recently switched it could be that his number is still registered with iMessage.

Deregister iMessage

Try that link. See if it helps 🫡

That was my first thought as well.

I’m sure they both also have Facebook and could use messenger.

Very much a US/NA problem.

WhatsApp or Telegram will do the trick, any other messaging service.

It’s weird that people route all their communication through Facebook outside of the US.

xCaldy t1_j8umah1 wrote

Whatsapp got big outside the US since we do not have unlimited text like in the US. People really don't care if it owns by Facebook tho.

okglue t1_j8uvlb9 wrote

Exactly. WhatsApp is much more convenient than other services due to its universal adoption - especially when you're communicating with people coming from many nations.

xCaldy t1_j8uwsmg wrote

Yup, how can you explain regular joe or grandma to use signal just because is more safe if is less popular, WhatsApp is simple and ready to use.

shavitush t1_j8v91dm wrote

whatever alternative you prefer works. it's just nonsense to use imessage and essentially bully people into getting an iphone because of their text bubble's color or "breaking group chats" when yall can just use a cross platform app

Odd_Try_68 t1_j94fjwh wrote

iMessage sends plain text messages to anyone no matter what kind of phone they have. I don’t group chat.

Whatsapp was big outside USA before FB bought it. It was the default replacement for the extremely popular Blackberry Messenger, because WA was the only app that worked on all three smartphone platforms (Android, iPhone, and Blackberry). Once they’re in, there has never been a compelling reason to leave.

Plus Windows Phone

Redcarborundum t1_j8uuui2 wrote

Forgot about that. Yes, it was also working for the five people who used Windows phones.

You could use another messaging app like Signal that works across Android and iOS. You could also use a cloud storage service like Google Photos or OneDrive. Create a folder and upload photos there and access them across all your devices.

Please Use Signal, or Telegram, and definitely stay away from Facebook. They are going to harvest your data in a very an un apple type manner.

Not if you want to send full quality photos…

2

joe4563 t1_j8w4s81 wrote

I agree. But it’s widely used and will probably be the best option as most people they know likely use it.

1

plaid-knight t1_j8w4wir wrote

They only discussed needing to send photos to one person (not people in general) and expressed that they care about quality.

1

joe4563 t1_j8w55ty wrote

The drop in quality of a photo on WhatsApp to most people is barely noticeable. Zooming in is a different story however. Chances are they’ll come across others who don’t have an iPhone so it’s still worth having for other people.

mozzamo t1_j8vmbkh wrote

Sounds like you’re talking about messaging? In which case the rather disappointing answer is WhatsApp

2

FinlayTomasMead t1_j8wx8jk wrote

I’ve always used WhatsApp to just sent a few photos from a day out.

Divorce is the only option here.

Kidding, kidding.

My friend is in one of these mixed-tech marriages and they use Google Photos. His wife (the iPhone user) has it on her iPhone and she's able to upload photos to shared albums to share with him. If you're just texting photos and videos back and forth you can also use something like WhatsApp, Signal, or Google Meet.

2

cooooolbeeans OP t1_j91k5rf wrote

With the Google photos, do we use the same amount or able to link it separately? Would this work with family so I can just show family photos of the kids without texting individually or posting on social media?

1

abackupforthebackup t1_j92c2mk wrote

You each have your own google account and then you can create shared albums. Put any photos you want to share into those shared albums. Can add as many people as you want to an album so easy to share with family.

Try using Signal - more secure than WhatsApp and other messaging platform.

retiredTechie t1_j8utov5 wrote

My extended family with a mix of iPhones and Android has been using Signal for years. Works pretty well and has gotten more polished since we started using it.

If you need it, you can link a desktop client with your phone too. I find that convenient.
