Want to buy quite an expensive one for every day use. Afraid that I will lose them in the first week. Please cheer me up with your horror stories.

Never, I've been using them for many years. I suggest getting into the habit of putting them in a case as soon as you've finished listening, a cheap plastic food container is fine. Don't put them loose in your pocket or a bag, they are only made robust enough to be used for listening to audio while you do nothing that might damage them. I have some that are over eight years old and are used regularly.
Never, I put iems to pouch so it does not get lost
Never
I once lost a pair of apple earbuds when I was ten. But since I care for my sennies, I can't imagine to lose them
Lost a pair of Fiio FH5s in about 6 months. Left em in a classroom in college. Then COVID happened the week after and I couldn't go back to find them.
Back when wired IEMs or old school earbuds/earphones were given as freebies with the phones/other devices, some of us just lost them over time all the time, lol.
These days the $20 IEMs are really good and so just use those for outside use.
Right now the current marketed hype sets are the $20 Truthear HOLA, TANGZU Wan'er, 7Hz Salnotes Zero, et cetera.
There's a lot of earbuds cases these days that may be really easy to find, like put stickers/etc. on it to make it distinguishable. As in, always have a container for your IEMs so that they don't get damaged or lost easily. Treat IEMs/audio stuff as jewelry as when you drop them, the sound/everything can be damaged, and so yup, always use some caution when using them.

I lost my Meze 11 neo after about 3 months of using them. I never particularly take care of them but it's quite unfortunate.
Once. In a hotel.
Never
I literally use them or keep them with me all the time so never
The worst thing that ever happened to my earphones was forgetting to take them out of the pocket before washing the clothes
Used to lose my dirty buds occasionally back in the day but ever since I've started buying "real" earbuds/IEMs, never once. They're either in a safe place or I use them so often that they're in a prominent place like my desk or bedside table. I rarely crinkle them up in my pockets anymore.
If you have an iPhone you can just slip an airtag into their case which will decrease the chance of you losing them
Found some cheapo JBL iems in a movie theater seat someone left behind.
