For kids under 10 and local multiplayer, which console is the better choice? I’m pulled toward XBOX due to the Game Pass. I imagine the library to purchase is also great. Being able to control access is important, but both seem to have that covered. Concerns with Nintendo is the game play quality will be limited, controllers might not feel as good, and having to buy all the games. It feels like a phone compared to a computer (XBOX) just based on size. Thoughts?

Gamepass is pretty big value all round. Ninty online doesnt offer anywhere near as much value wise and the flagship games rarely drop much in price. X box would have a lot more power for games overall. I would probably see if theres specific games they want to play on switch though. Joycon sets can get pretty expensive.

Nintendo Switch 100%. The console is portable and nothing beats Mario,Yoshi,Zelda games for kids. Switch is the best family console in my opinion. Tons of content for children.Mario Kart is probably the best racing game that children , grandparents and parents can play together. GamePass does not have a lot of games suited for small children like Nintendo.

XSX. The only reason for getting a Switch really is for their exclusives or on-the-go gaming. If this is meant for your kids to play at home then XSX + Game Pass will go a long way.

I would say the Nintendo Switch if you want a mobile gaming or if you want to play Nintendo exclusive games like Super Mario, Warioware, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Pokemon and Kirby.

For the price of a Series X, you can almost get a Switch and a Series S.

If it really is for the kids, then the switch is awesome and works as a handheld or when docked to a TV. We love to take those on road trips and vacations.

The Xbox starts to get into more mature titles and gameplay, so not as suitable for kids. I’ve not played with the parental controls on that one to see what you can do. But unless you can lock it, they would have the ability to play mature titles.

If all you want is the game pass, you can save a lot of money and just buy the series S. That’s what we did and we use the game pass for old games and play new games on the PS5 that we already have. I haven’t had an Xbox since the 360, so it made sense for me to go back and play the last 10 years worth of Xbox exclusives.

Honestly if the target is really kids under 10. The Nintendo really is much more kid friendly on games and titles. And their friends are more likely to be playing those games on that platform. plus, it keeps them quiet in the car.

Xbox can’t do that 🤣✌️

Download the gamepass app and have a look through the games. Each games tells you whether it’s co-op, online, single player etc. plus there’s a family section of games.

Have a browse through that and see if there’s enough in there to warrant it for family playing.

Series S with Game Pass. I'm pretty sure the kids would break the switch in no time. Also, Nintendo Games are pretty expensive and with Game Pass you get a ton of games for young and old.

Got a 7 Y/o in the house and he oooos and ahhhs at the switch, but genuinely finds a new game maybe once a week on Xbox that will soak his time up. He’s an Xbox kid all day (fortnite, roblox, Minecraft) just to name a few good free games

Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback and suggestions! I ended up going with the XSX for now and will look at doing a Switch at a later point. So far they are loving the XSX. The only downside for locking things down is they can still see game cover art, but other than that, all is working well. Y’all have a Happy New Year!

I (26m) have a Nintendo switch and recently upgraded from my Xbox one to the series X. I’ll be honest. I am blown away by quick resume. Not to mention the graphics are awesome (permitting you’re using a 4k tv). The switch is cool but honestly after I beat breath of the wild I haven’t played it as much. Also Nintendo games are almost always $60 whereas I feel Xbox always has good deals

Series is the ultimate option, espeically when it comes to controllers. JoyCons feel like crap to play with and that's not counting the infamous drift issues. Buy the Series and the Elite MK2 controller; you won't be disappointed! Game Pass has so many games, you'll never be able to play them all before they get cancelled and replaced with new games. It's the Netflix of gaming. Nintendo has nothing like Game Pass, unless you consider the "Free" "Virtual Console Games" to be the same thing. Those games are extremely old and outdated - who wants to pay money to play the same games they played 30+ years ago?! That's completely stupid!! I wanna play modern games. I buy a modern to play modern games.
