Explanation: In Norway pizzas are all thick crust, like a pan pizza, but still made in a pizza oven not a regular one, they have recently started serving 'Thin crust pizza' or 'Italian-Style pizza' as they call it, but they differentiate by calling thick crust "Traditional" and thin crust "Italian-style".

Don't ask me why, i'm Swedish.

Pizza was good though.

I'm not sure, it is a question that has baffled scientists and philosophers alike for decades.

American here. My buddy in Malmö loves bananas on his pizza. He says it's a Swedish thing. Is this true or is he just odd?

Banana, curry, ham pizza is a thing in Sweden yes, not my favorite but pretty good, we also have kebabpizza which is 🔥💯🔥

In Norway they prefer pineapple and olives.

Just a small fact about the Swedish style of pizza It's more of a mix between a pizza and the middle eastern lahmacun.

Edit: i kinda forgot to add is. it's more refering to the Kebab pizza more than anything else.

Did you add Piffikrydderi and Pizzakrydderi? That always completed the full Norwegian pizza experience for me.

I’m in the Midwest and have heard of thicker crusts also called “traditional”.

The pizza in Norway (at least the two places where I have eaten) is top notch. And the amount of frozen pizza and other their grocery stores are mind blowing. And in the Norwegian detective story I read, the main character ate pizza all the time. Norwegians loves their pizza!

I read somewhere that Norway wears the most pizza per Capita in the world. I might be wrong though

Edit: eats the most pizza!

What's on it? I mean I see red and green paprika, red onions, and maybe champignons? The white stuff may be...sour cream? And anchiovis?

Tomatoes, bell peppers, red onion, button mushroom, spiced minced meat, small bits of bacon, extra cheese, and garlic herb dressing.

PI_Dude t1_j6e85sl wrote

Cool, thanks.

Mountainbranch OP t1_j6ef0u4 wrote

Also they don't cook the tomato sauce before saucing the dough so it has a nice acidic bite that cuts through the increased crust and toppings, very nice.

As someone from USA, if I ordered a supreme pizza (very common type of pizza here), I would expect something exactly like this minus the white sauce.

RealEstateDuck t1_j6auudz wrote

That crust looks like it has a perfect texture.

Mountainbranch OP t1_j6cxzje wrote

Crunchy, fluffy, soft and pillowy, the Norwegians have perfected the art of thick crust pizza over generations, and they just load that sucker up with so many toppings.

This is what as a Norwegian we would just call "American" pizza. For a "traditional Norwegian" pizza it would be a homemade square one cooked in the regular oven with thick bottom, tomato sauce, minced meat, and generous cheese on top. It was intended to feed a family with very simple tastes and to be fairly cheap to make.

While American style pizza is popular, Italian style is also very popular in urban areas.

PS the white sauce is what we call "rømmedressing", which is a sourcream based sauce with garlic and some other spices. It's eaten on both types except not really served at fancier Italian restaurants.

Mountainbranch OP t1_j6cy1i7 wrote

Oh yeah i bought this at a pizzeria, which would explain the round shape, but homemade ones are almost always square.

To me, there are two critical elements to pizza; first, toppings have to balance toward salty, that why pepperoni works well. Second, all toppings have to be well cooked and HOT! This doesn’t looked well cooked and hot. But they ingredients look good.

3

FriendoftheDork t1_j6b1dp5 wrote

Pretty sure it is well cooked and hot. I can't see how you'd cook the beef better without just burning it.
The cheese type is different from the US though so that may be why it looks less cooked. Also there is a lot of watery vegetables on it that will be soft when cooked and make it look "less cooked".

daveescaped t1_j6bdq5q wrote

I like to cool the veg separately so that the brown up better on the pizza.
