What are the units? This doesn't tell me anything because I don't know if this is percent change, annualized percent, or something else.

Why is inflation a straight line moving steadily up? This doesn't match the inflation rate over time at all.

Its a log scale,it flattens exponential growth

But the inflation rate didn't steadily move up over this time period.

This CPI is an indicator close to the accumulated information. The line on the graph is not straight. It matches reality.
The other thing is that inflation has nothing to do with the price of gold, and placing them on the same chart is strange.

Graph should start at 1944. Starting in 1971, when the gold standard was removed after 27 years of being fixed to the dollar, shows a massive adjustment for the price to catch up to the previous years of inflation that occurred.

Or not showing stocks which have out paced gold and inflation way more.

Unless you also put a major Stock index into the graph this is extremely misleading. Yes investing in gold will outpace inflation, but there are so many other investment options that have done much much better

This reminds me of the graphs showing annual swimming pool drownings compared to Nick Cage movies released that year
