I’m moving to Baltimore soon, been looking at apartments in mount vernon and nearby neighborhoods, and was wondering if I should be searching for apartments that have garages or parking lots. I have a small sedan that I plan to be driving everyday, so if I do park on the street, I would like to park close by to my apartment. What is the street parking situation like in mount vernon and surrounding neighborhoods? Also, is it safe to park your car on the street overnight?

If you want to be close to your apartment then you’re better off finding a place with parking in mount vernon. Street permits are cheap ($20 for the year) but it feels like there’s more cars than spots sometimes. It is likely there will be times where you will need to circle for 10-15 mins and may end up a couple blocks away. A lot of newer building with 4+ units are not street permit eligible so make sure to check if you are going to go the street parking route.

I never had any issues parking in mount vernon. Break ins/window smashing does happen. You should try to leave nothing visible if someone were to look into your car.

Lived in midtown for a couple years and parked on Calvert and Guilford bridges most of the time. You just got to leave absolutely nothing in your car or your window will be smashed in and searched. Depending on my hours I would also sometimes park close to my apartment in the hourly slots - they turn free pretty early in the night and would just wake up before they started charging and moved my car.

Depending on where you are in Mt. Vernon, an SP+ monthly parking pass for a garage could be an option (but it’s PRICY).

I get the peace of mind of always finding a spot, key card access to the stairwell, and security via cameras/gated entrance. And it’s only a block from my apartment.

It only works because I chose a living situation in a more commercialized part of Mt. Vernon so street parking isn’t an option.

Street parking is tough in Mount Vernon. 500 Park Ave and 520 Park Ave are both apartment buildings with parking lots/garages for residents. The garage at 15 W Franklin is $145/ month.

If you get tired of street parking, Mt. Vernon is overrun with surface parking lots and garages you can rent monthly rates. No shortage of parking whatsoever.
