Going to UMD this weekend and looking for some good and not expensive breakfast/brunch/diner place along the way.

Thinking of somewhere in Columbia, Ellicott City, Hanover or somewhere that’s not too far off the route. I’m open to suggestion for places in college park too.

Thanks

First Watch and Metro Diner (not in the local area, yet) are probably my top choices for chain breakfast places that deliver good value. Maybe not the absolute best breakfast nor the cheapest but you generally significantly better than something like Denny’s.

Is Victoria open for breakfast?

Ask was for breakfast or brunch, so brunch.

Wings Sport Cafe, 8406 Washington Blvd. It's a dive, but awesome in the morning. A good breakfast menu at low prices, staff is awesome. I go there after a 24 hour shift for a good breakfast and a couple of beers.

Damn, I’ve actually been here… I would have never thought this place would ever be mentioned on here.

Atwaters is in Catonsville - not a terrible distance particularly from EC. They have good breakfast.

Also in Catonsville is Taneytown Deli which has great breakfast sandwiches.

In Ellicott City, White Oak Tavern has some good brunch, and is pretty in line with regular brunch spots.

In Columbia, Eggspectations is too expensive but will satisfy you, plus has a pretty extensive menu.

It’s not “on the way”, but my husband and I have spent quite a few dollars at Willy’s Kitchen in Ferndale, and happily tell anyone who asks about breakfast about them. Very small, family owned, incredible food and makes you feel like you’ve always been going there. :)

Thanks for posting about Willy's Kitchen. The menu looks great and I've added it to my list of new places to try!

They have two daily rotating specials, too! Sometimes they’re really amazing.

I think last weekend the one I remember is cookie butter French toast. 🤤

My recent experiences with both Columbia and Ellicott city has be OK places, but they are no more the chain eateries and are very busy. Recently ate in a "diner" in Elkridge, which to anyone's understanding would be called Columbia. It had no diner food and was trying to be more artsy with its food offerings and less about basic good diner food. It was also crowded and thus slow.

I once had a magical breakfast at a gas station on Route 1 just south of Hanover. I have no idea of the name but I’m still dreaming of that burrito.

I agree with Atwater’s in Catonsville. Also, I love The Trolley Stop in Oella; it’s located just off Frederick Rd just over the bridge as you leave Old Ellicott City. We eat breakfast or lunch there a couple of times a week
