Part of why I became vegetarian decades ago. I even only ate breadless chicken to keep the illusion up as long as possible before just cutting it out too.

>To reach muskrat county, you head east on Route 50 to Cambridge, then turn southwest, passing the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and winding through the marshes of the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. It’s here, beneath the scrubby pines and amid tall, dun-colored grasses that muskrats, a species native to wetlands throughout the continental United States, make their homes. The marshlands are full of what locals describe as “boot-sucking mud” and act as a natural filter, cleaning the water before it reaches the nearby Chesapeake Bay.

PBS has a documentary about this called Muskrat Lovely that came out in the mid 2000s but it doesn't seem to be online anywhere.

That is a great documentary! I have a smart, I streamed this on Vimeo. I think it’s free.

Eastern shore of MD and NJ is straight garbage. Like a dumpster with poop and fish guts.

The Eastern Shore of Maryland is really beautiful. Lots of water, lots of farms, lots of forest, and a few amazing beaches. Come visit sometime!

Well shoot. I guess it's ok. But when I lived there it was terrible. Lots of drugs. No much work. Lot of crazy biker types and loud party people. I know ocean city and Berlin some of Delaware .
Unless you're fairly well off financially, it's a not a fun place...for me anyways.
dj_ghostcat t1_jaa5sc5 wrote
Oh yeah, parts are very economically depressed.
Also, I avoid Ocean City like the plague. It's pretty trashy compared to other beaches nearby (especially in Delaware).
I can understand having had a bad experience though. It happens!
awaybaltimore410 t1_jaa7aff wrote
Yeah exactly. There's natural beauty there though. That part is amazing and very much should be conserved and protected. I hope they will.
Not_ROBVH t1_jaa1ee8 wrote
Really open mind you got there.

I know it well actually. I don't actually hate it. It's just a hard place to grow out of that mold you get put in by people there. It's a small town. Everyone knows everyone. I keep as far away as possible from anyone from that time and place...
Also lived in BUFFALO NY and went to Roswell Park

interesting. most people are very disconnected from their food source. the idea of killing, skinning, and eating something is weird to them, then they eat some meat from the grocery store and never think about the fact that the meat once had skin.
